Position Description Position Overview The Tool and Die Maker supports Applied Medical’s manufacturing and research operations by building, debugging, and maintaining progressive dies used in precision medical device manufacturing. This role contributes directly to tooling performance, production efficiency, and product quality by applying advanced tool and die making expertise in a regulated manufacturing environment.

The tool and die maker collaborates closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure dies meet engineering specifications, quality system requirements, and delivery schedules.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Build and debug progressive dies in accordance with engineering drawings, instructions, and manufacturing specifications.</li><li>Troubleshoot die performance issues and apply corrective actions to ensure consistent and repeatable operation.</li><li>Perform carbide grinding and precision fitting to maintain tight tolerances and tooling quality.</li><li>Interface with engineering, department supervisors, quality control inspectors, and production teams to resolve technical issues and align priorities.</li><li>Follow quality system regulations, International Organization for Standardization standards, and standard operating procedures throughout all tooling activities.</li><li>Adhere to safety rules, manufacturing instructions, work rules, and other manufacturing guidelines.</li><li>Meet production schedules while maintaining Applied Medical’s standards for quality, safety, and documentation.</li></ul>Success in This Role Looks Like<ul><li>Delivering reliable, high performing progressive dies that support stable production output.</li><li>Resolving tooling issues efficiently through strong technical judgment and problem solving.</li><li>Maintaining clear communication with engineering and production stakeholders throughout tooling builds and debug activities.</li><li>Demonstrating craftsmanship and attention to detail in all tooling and grinding work.</li><li>Supporting a safe, compliant, and collaborative manufacturing environment.</li></ul> Position Requirements This position requires the following skills and attributes:<ul><li>Five or more years of experience in tool and die making or equivalent hands-on tooling experience.</li><li>Demonstrated expertise in progressive die troubleshooting and carbide grinding techniques.</li><li>Ability to read, write, and speak in English for effective communication and documentation.</li><li>Foundational computer skills for documentation, communication, and basic data entry.</li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.</li></ul> Preferred The following skills and attributes are preferred:<ul><li>Experience operating manual surface grinders and milling machines.</li><li>Ownership and proficient use of personal precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.</li><li>Experience working with stainless steel and copper materials.</li><li>Background in medical device manufacturing or other regulated production environments.</li></ul> Benefits Benefits<ul><li>Competitive compensation range: $25 - $40 / hour (California). </li><li>Comprehensive benefits package. </li><li>Training and mentorship opportunities. </li><li>On-campus wellness activities. </li><li>Education reimbursement program. </li><li>401(k) program with discretionary employer match. </li><li>Generous vacation accrual and paid holiday schedule. </li></ul>Please note that the compensation range may be adjusted in the future, and bonus and incentive compensation plans may apply.
