At our site in Alexandria, Minnesota, we design, manufacture, test and provide service support of LGC, Biosearch Technologies laboratory instrumentation and consumables. Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing. The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
Position Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the Column and PolyFrit manufacturing processes. The NAC Consumables Supervisor position focuses primarily on leading the team to NAC Consumables and to maintain the stock or supply the products for the company’s DNA synthesis reagents, which are supplied to both internal and external customers. This position is responsible for directly working with the NAC Consumables Manager to ensure that all functions of the team are performed in compliance with all company procedures and external regulatory requirements. This position will be directly supervising and supporting the assigned staff, leading by example, and ensuring that all tasks are appropriately defined and documented, and taking ownership for manufacturing and quality control efforts of this team. The NAC Consumables Supervisor serves as the technical expert for all products manufactured by this department and interfaces with the QC and QA departments of the company at the Alexandria site and at sister LGC sites to ensure products, and raw materials needed are readily available as needed under controlled protocols or are ordered through a traceable process.

In the role of a people manager at LGC this position is responsible for overseeing a team of employees and is responsible for specific deliverables for the business. The individual in this role executes decisions and judgement based on the outputs or needs of the department, site and organization. This position drives business results by working closely with team members; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising individual performance; coaching, counselling, and taking corrective actions when situations dictate. As a people manager this position maintains the team by recruiting, hiring, familiarizing, and training employees, fostering personal growth opportunities and talent managing team and individual performance.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily.

Essential Functions:

The daily tasks of the NAC Consumables Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

Manage the priorities of products and projects as directed by the NAC Consumables Manager to affect the day-to-day priorities of the team members, ensuring that the changing needs of the company and customers are always reflected in those priorities.

Ensure priorities are completed by:

Properly scheduling employee time off requests

Appropriately scheduling maintenance activities

Verifying equipment is functioning and properly maintained

Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal suppliers, production team members, and production supervisors and managers to ensure the most efficient use of time and resources

Effectively communicate with maintenance team members to ensure production equipment is functional and available for production.

Ensure appropriate work instructions are in place as well as write and review manufacturing procedures and documents with the objective of improving production efficiency, complying with applicable quality and safety standards, and to ensure the continuous improvement of processes.

Provide effective leadership through:

Performance evaluations and goal setting

Active coaching and mentoring of team members

Supplying technical expertise to team members

Enforcing company policy and managing individual performance issues

Proactively interface with packaging support group and internal customers to identify and implement areas of continuous improvement.

Executes on objectives and goals to support a positive, efficient, and motivated team.

Serve as team expert for the utilization of LGC’s inventory management system.

Support team operations through manufacturing support and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes.

Responsible for overseeing the safe use of hazardous chemicals in a manufacturing environment on a daily basis.

Ensure the availability of raw materials to make products in a timely manner that complies with internal and external customer requirements.

Research (with budget), implement, and maintain equipment as needed to perform production tasks at the scales or volumes required by end users.

Make recommendations to management as necessary regarding resources required to meet production objectives, including raw materials, equipment, employees, and production space.

Periodically review the workload of the team and take necessary measures to streamline processes as needed.

Ensure maintenance of a safe, organized, and clean working space.

Provide status reports and updates to the NAC Consumables Manager and Site Director.

Other Duties as Assigned: Responds with flexibility and collaboration to the needs of the business – both internally and externally – by addressing important corporate initiatives when requested by management.

Essential Knowledge & Qualifications:

5+ years of demonstrated work experience in a related field including management of manufacturing teams

Experience working in an ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 certified QMS, or equivalent, environment

Working knowledge or training in Lean or Continuous Improvement concepts

Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office software and inventory management system

Professional presence and strong attention to detail

Proven leadership skills in a manufacturing environment

Experience hiring, training, leading and developing employees

Preferred Knowledge & Qualifications:

2 years of experience working as Packaging Support Lead employee, or equivalent department or related field

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrates proficiency to meet the requirements of a Packaging Support Supervisor

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

The customary salary range for this position is:

Minimum pay rate: $65,000 USD annually

Maximum pay rate: $100,000 USD annually

The salary range provided covers the minimum and maximum amounts projected for this role. The base salary will be influenced by factors like experience, skills, and location.

Anticipated pay rate: $65,000 - $75,000 USD annually
