Job Overview Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the ethics and compliance program in Lilly Japan, driving the integration of high performance with high integrity. Serve as the primary E&C point of contact for the Business Units and Commercial Capabilities, enabling organizational adherence to Lilly’s Code of Conduct and applicable laws, industry codes, regulations, and OIG guidance through the seven elements of an effective compliance program.

Play a key role in enabling Lilly Japan’s new business initiatives, including but not limited to Consumer Activation and Private Ecosystem. Work with the global Ethics and Compliance organization to implement Lilly’s program (risk assessment and mitigation, policies and procedures, communications, training, and monitoring) in a way that achieves the organization’s objectives with high integrity.

Key Responsibilities E&C Program Management and Risk Work with leadership to embed the key elements of an effective compliance program into local governance and decision forums, business and operational processes, and training. Lead E&C consultation on existing and emerging risk areas; ensure the business understands the risks and that reliable, well-understood controls are in place to prevent and mitigate them.

Develop and implement dynamic compliance risk assessments and integrate mitigating measures into business processes. Leverage E&C data analytics and tools for insights that enable timely and effective risk management.

Analyze and identify program and business risks; develop and drive monitoring plans, root cause analysis, and meaningful corrective and preventive actions in close collaboration across E&C functions (E&C Monitoring COE, E&C Capability Teams, Data Analytics Team, etc.). Support E&C procedure localization and provide input into global policies and procedures so that they reflect local needs and remain consistent with Global Policies and Standards.

Drive E&C-related compliance communications and training for the business. Communicate the “state of control” effectively to leadership, together with external environment and risk areas and internal policies and standards.

Provide compliance support for investigations of non-compliant activities, and ensure consistent application of corrective actions and disciplinary steps, coordinating with Legal and/or HR. Actively contribute to key E&C meetings (e.g., monitoring forums, staff) and business partner meetings (e.g., lead teams).

Business Influence and Cross-Functional Collaboration Through deep business acumen and influence across all levels of the organization, ensure business discussions and decisions consistently consider appropriate ethics and compliance elements, with clear business ownership of ethics in every decision. Foster an open and collaborative environment that promotes teamwork, open communication, and a culture of integrity.

Lead E&C members supporting other BUs and functions in Japan to ensure consistent E&C approaches across BUs and functions; close partnership with the Chief Marketing Officer and the Sales Operations and Capabilities Leader in Japan is critical to achieving this goal. Establish win-win relationships with global and IBU E&C colleagues to enable shared learning and contribute to global and regional initiatives.

Collaborate with and influence Alliance Partner(s) to ensure high performance with high integrity in alliance settings, in close partnership with the business; lead the compliance review and compliance agreement development for new business development deals. Represent Lilly in the local industry association and in interactions with regulators.

Coach and develop people in E&C, including but not limited to direct report(s). Business Title: Senior Director-Ethics & Compliance Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree.

At least 5 years of experience within the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry, with knowledge of local laws, regulations, guidance, and Codes. Strong cross-functional experience (Brand Team and alliance experience strongly preferred).

Professional-level proficiency in Japanese (speak, read, and write), preferably sufficient to operate effectively with industry associations and regulators in Japan. English proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills to work across and contribute to global E&C.

Recent experience in compliance, legal, or similar control functions is an advantage.
