Senior Scientist, Protein Engineering Protein Research, Måløv, Denmark

We are expanding our research capabilities across both established and emerging therapeutic areas and are looking for an experienced Principal/Senior Scientist to join our Protein Engineering team.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in protein design and mammalian expression while working at the forefront of drug discovery. You will play a key role in advancing early research projects, driving scientific innovation, and contributing to the development of future therapies that can improve the lives of people living with serious chronic diseases.

The Position As a Senior Scientist in Protein Engineering, you will be responsible for designing and delivering complex recombinant proteins that support scientific innovation, target validation, and lead candidate discovery across Novo Nordisk’s research portfolio. Working in close collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams, you will provide scientific expertise in protein design, expression, and optimisation, helping to address challenging biological questions and accelerate project progression.

Your responsibilities will include: Designing and producing recombinant proteins to support research and drug discovery activities. Driving protein engineering strategies to enable immunisation, functional assays, biomarker development, target engagement studies, and structural biology activities.

Applying expertise in protein sequence, structure, and biophysical properties to optimise protein expression and quality on challenging protein expression projects. Supporting proof-of-concept activities and early innovation initiatives across therapeutic areas.

Contributing to scientific innovation, technology development, and continuous improvement of protein engineering workflows. Building strong cross-functional collaborations and influencing project direction through scientific leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Your New Department You will join Protein Engineering, a department within Protein Research, where we focus on the discovery and engineering of recombinant biotherapeutics and enabling protein technologies across Novo Nordisk’s research portfolio. Protein Research is part of Protein and Peptide Research within Therapeutics Discovery.

Together, we bring diverse scientific competencies across the full research value chain to discover and advance innovative protein- and peptide-based therapeutics. Our multidisciplinary teams combine scientific excellence, innovation, and collaboration to tackle complex challenges and create life-changing medicines.

Your Skills & Qualifications To succeed in this role, we imagine that you have: A PhD in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Protein Science, or a related scientific discipline. Broad experience in protein design, engineering, and mammalian protein expression, preferably within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

Strong understanding of how protein sequence, structure, and biophysical properties influence expression, manufacturability, and protein quality. Business understanding and appreciation of the pharmaceutical research and development value chain.

Proven ability to collaborate and influence across functions in a highly matrixed research environment. Strong stakeholder management skills and experience building productive scientific partnerships.

A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for developing new approaches and optimising existing processes. Excellent communication skills and professional fluency in English.

Driven by scientific curiosity and motivated by translating innovative protein engineering and mammalian expression solutions into potential therapies for patients. Creative and collaborative problem-solver who enjoys tackling complex scientific challenges, sharing knowledge with colleagues, and thriving in a dynamic and innovative research environment.

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 651,000.00 to 956,900.00 DKK, corresponding to the level of the position. The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.
