Continuous glucose monitoring is transforming diabetes management, and our Procurement team plays a critical role in enabling innovation, supply continuity, and cost competitiveness across our portfolio. As the Senior Procurement Manager, Strategy & New Product Introduction (NPI) , you will lead a team of procurement professionals responsible for supporting product development, commercialization, and long-term supply strategies for Abbott Diabetes Care at the manufacturing level.
This role partners closely with Operations, Supplier Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and R&D organizations to ensure the successful sourcing and launch of new products at our manufacturing sites while driving strategic sourcing decisions, risk mitigation, and value creation. The Senior Procurement Manager will also be accountable for developing and executing sourcing strategies that support innovation, accelerating time-to-market, improving business processes, and delivering sustainable cost improvements.
This leader will also manage a team responsible for supplier selection, supplier readiness, NPI procurement activities, and strategic sourcing initiatives that support both current and future business needs. Up to 25% travel, including domestic and international supplier visits, business reviews, and new product launch activities.
This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA. What You’ll Work On Manage and develop a team of Procurement professionals supporting Strategy and NPI initiatives.
Establish clear performance expectations, objectives, and development plans for direct reports. Drive employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and high-performance team outcomes.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation. Build organizational capability in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement project leadership.
Establish procurement strategies that align supplier capabilities with business growth objectives, product roadmaps, and operational requirements. Partner with Operations, Supplier Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and R&D teams to integrate procurement early in the product development lifecycle and accelerate commercialization efforts.
Collaborate with Category Management and Corporate Procurement teams to leverage enterprise-wide strategies, supplier relationships, and market intelligence. Lead supplier selection, qualification, and contracting activities for new products and technologies at the manufacturing level.
Develop and execute sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, supply continuity, innovation, and risk. Drive supplier engagement during product development, design transfers, pilot builds, validation activities, and commercial launch readiness.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers to improve performance, support innovation, and strengthen long-term partnerships. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to capacity, geopolitical factors, single-source dependencies, business continuity, and regulatory compliance.
Lead cost reduction and value engineering initiatives through supplier collaboration, competitive sourcing, and commercial negotiations. Manage cross-functional project timelines and procurement deliverables to support successful product launches and business objectives.
Ensure compliance with Abbott policies, procurement procedures, quality requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Present sourcing strategies, supplier recommendations, business cases, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 10 years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, or related business experience.
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), product development, commercialization, or technology transfer programs. Strong strategic sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiation experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations. Strong financial acumen with the ability to evaluate business cases, cost models, investment opportunities, and supply chain tradeoffs.
Excellent communication, influencing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage supplier risk, drive performance improvements, and deliver measurable business results.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management capabilities. Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications Master of Business Administration or related field. Minimum of 3 years of people leadership experience, including direct management and development of professional teams.
Consulting experience. Experience leading supplier innovation, should-cost analysis, and value engineering initiatives.
Experience within medical devices, healthcare, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries. Knowledge of FDA, ISO, and other applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
Certification in Supply Chain, Procurement, or Project Management disciplines (CPSM, CPM, CSCP, PMP, or equivalent). The base pay for this position is $148,700.00 – $297,300.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
