We are seeking a commercially driven and clinically focused Surgical Vitreoretinal Account Manager in the Midlands & Northwest England area (Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham). This role offers the opportunity to partner with leading vitreoretinal surgeons, theatre teams, procurement specialists and key decision-makers to drive adoption of Alcon's market-leading surgical portfolio.
You will be responsible for developing strategic customer relationships, growing utilisation of the VR portfolio, and identifying opportunities to support customer objectives while delivering sustainable business growth. The role combines both consumable and capital equipment sales, including the promotion of cutting-edge technologies and Alcon's innovative vitreoretinal surgical solutions.
Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to confidently engage with healthcare professionals across multiple levels within NHS and private healthcare environments. A typical day-to-day in this role will be to: Develop and execute territory business plans to achieve and exceed sales objectives across the vitreoretinal portfolio.
Identify and secure new business opportunities while strengthening existing customer relationships. Build strategic partnerships with vitreoretinal consultants, theatre teams, procurement stakeholders and hospital decision-makers.
Drive product adoption and procedural utilisation through customer education, clinical support and commercial value discussions. Identify and develop opportunities for capital equipment placement and market expansion.
Support customers through the implementation and adoption of new technologies and surgical innovations. Gather and communicate customer insights, market intelligence and competitor activity to support business planning and portfolio strategy.
Organise and coordinate local educational meetings, workshops and customer events in compliance with company policies. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues to deliver outstanding customer experiences and business outcomes.
Maintain accurate territory records, sales plans and administrative activities to ensure effective territory management. Represent Alcon professionally and consistently demonstrate the company's values and commitment to excellence.
What You'll Bring to Alcon Essential Demonstrable success in medical device, secondary healthcare, surgical sales or capital equipment sales. Proven ability to build and develop long-term customer relationships.
Strong commercial, negotiation and territory management skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels within healthcare organisations. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Self-motivated, proactive and capable of managing a diverse workload independently. High levels of integrity, professionalism and sound business judgement.
Full UK Driving Licence. Willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
Preferred Experience within ophthalmology, vitreoretinal surgery or related surgical specialties. Experience selling high-value medical consumables and/or capital equipment.
Experience working with NHS procurement processes and key account management principles. Ability to discuss surgical workflows, clinical outcomes and product benefits confidently with healthcare professionals.
Degree qualification (or equivalent) in Life Sciences, Business, Marketing or a related discipline. Fluency in English (written and verbal); additional European languages would be advantageous.
