The Role
The Country Medical Director, Spain & Portugal provides strategic, scientific and organizational leadership for Medical Affairs across Spain and Portugal. Reporting to the VP, Head of Medical Affairs Europe, this individual serves as the senior Medical Affairs leader for both markets, leads the local Medical Affairs organization, and is a key member of the Country Leadership Team.
The role is accountable for planning and executing the affiliate Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with European and Global priorities and the clinical development plan. A key focus will be preparing for and executing successful launches across Genmab’s oncology portfolio, ensuring scientific readiness, organizational preparedness and effective post-launch implementation.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution, close cross-functional partnership, oversight of Medical Affairs priorities, budget, people and performance, and senior external scientific engagement.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute the Spain and Portugal Medical Affairs strategy and annual plans.
Lead Medical Affairs launch preparation and execution across pre-launch, launch and post-launch phases.
Establish the scientific foundation for successful and sustainable adoption of Genmab medicines.
Serve as the senior medical and scientific voice for Spain and Portugal and a strategic partner to the Country Leadership Team.
Own Medical Affairs priorities, resources and budget across both markets.
Translate local treatment, access and stakeholder insights into actionable strategy and ensure country insights inform European and Global decision-making.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with external experts, investigators, scientific societies and healthcare stakeholders.
Lead key scientific exchange, advisory boards, congress activities, medical education and executive external engagement.
Partner closely with Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical Development/Operations and other functions to ensure integrated launch and lifecycle execution.
Ensure alignment with the clinical development plan and support clinical trial and investigator engagement activities.
Lead local evidence-generation priorities and provide medical input into reimbursement and HTA activities.
Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Spain and Portugal Medical Affairs organization.
Represent Spain and Portugal within European Medical Affairs and contribute to regional priorities.
Requirements
Medical degree (MD).
Significant pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, with strong Medical Affairs leadership experience, preferably within oncology.
Demonstrated experience preparing for and executing successful pharmaceutical launches.
Proven experience developing and implementing country Medical Affairs strategy across the product lifecycle.
Strong understanding of the Spanish healthcare, reimbursement, HTA and access environment; knowledge of Portugal is highly desirable.
Established experience engaging senior external experts and healthcare stakeholders.
Proven ability to provide medical leadership within a cross-functional affiliate and Country Leadership Team environment.
Previous people leadership experience, including building and developing high-performing teams.
Experience managing Medical Affairs priorities, resources and budgets.
Strong understanding of clinical development and alignment of affiliate activities with development plans.
Strong strategic thinking, execution, communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and demanding launch timelines.
