Meet the team

As Dexcom’s Medical Affairs team grows globally and builds to best-in-class, we are seeking an experienced Medical Science Liaison Manager to join Dexcom Japan’s growing and fast-paced team. The professional individual contributor will develop and facilitate the company’s relationship with the medical/scientific community, including physicians and allied healthcare professionals, by communicating research developments, scientific communications and new concepts in diabetes treatment using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). In this role will be a hybrid role of focusing on professional education and key medical affairs functions.

You will provide nationwide education to healthcare professional (HCP) regarding the treatment of diabetes, medical device product training, CGM category updates, pertinent clinical studies, and the use of CGM as a management tool and standard of care for diabetes as well as work with HCPs in the planning, development and execution of local and regional evidence need to drive CGM as standard of care. In addition, this role will support the access expansion of CGM nationally and support the medical and value messaging of CGM to healthcare authorities and national healthcare systems. In this role, you will provide clinical and medical education leadership to support the Commercial Teams regarding the application, use of CGM for people with diabetes and clinical best practices.

This position will take a leadership role in the development and delivery of national and regional medical education programs within Japan as well as CGM advocacy among HCPs and diabetes societies, while planning for the ongoing development of key opinion leaders (KOL) throughout Japan and executing on the Japanese KOL strategy. The position will work collaboratively with the San Diego Corporate offices, APAC Marketing, Legal, Regulatory, Clinical, Global and Regional Medical, Customer Support, Field Sales, and Industry partners.

Where you come in

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have extensive experience in the treatment of diabetes, deep knowledge about the use of diabetes technology in clinical practice and be familiar with the current medical/scientific data and guidelines that support the use of CGM for people with diabetes. The ability to critically analyze and discuss scientific publication and clinical methodology is a must to be successful in this role.

  • You facilitate and lead in the planning, development, communication and promotion of emerging clinical trial data, expanded indications, and strategic publications. This will include presenting this data to HCPs, delivering scientific discourse and face-to-face meetings. KOLs via presentations, discussions, and face-to-face meetings.
  • You design the planning and execution of medical/scientific Advisory Forums and bring back valuable insights to the business.
  • You will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategic medical education and communications plan aligned to Japan’s business imperatives.
  • You engage in scientific, medical evidence discussions with healthcare decision-makers and KOLs to support the development of local clinical practice guidelines for use of CGM.
  • You will support the Market Access teams in the discussions of both medical and value benefits of CGM to national healthcare providers and value-based decision makers.
  • You will support strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration for evidence generation, specifically Canadian real-world evidence for product, clinical, quality improvement programs, economic and patient-reported outcomes that demonstrate the value of Dexcom CGM for existing and future markets.
  • Plan and execute the local and regional medical communication plans for key Dexcom sponsored clinical studies as well as external research studies in collaboration with Global Medical and Scientific Affairs. This includes publications, conference proceedings, conference podium presentations, medical education and other professional channels of communication.
  • You will leverage Dexcom’s best-in-class medical software platforms to increase efficiency and consistency globally and seek innovative approaches, practices, and processes to improve the efficacy of medical affairs across Japan.
  • You establish strong cross-functional teamwork with Medical/Clinical Affairs, Global/Market Access, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance and Commercial Teams to effectively meet customer needs and business key imperatives.
  • You serve as a Regional and National Speaker and Dexcom medical expert in medical, clinical practice, scientific and product related discussions.
  • You lead KOL development and identifies CGM advocates and speakers to prepare presentations at regional or national clinical education programs.
  • You demonstrate value of medical education initiatives by prepare and presenting reports on key metrics and overall performance of programs by using the Veeva Vault and CRM platforms.
  • You serve as a national subject matter expert on real-time use and technical aspects of CGM.
  • You build trust with, and provide support to, local distributors and their teams regarding medical education on diabetes, diabetes management and therapies. Be the expert in the category of CGM and offer pertinent updates to colleagues on a regular basis.
  • You have current experience or working knowledge of advanced diabetes products, pharmaceutical trends and technologies, such as automated insulin delivery systems, CGM product software, remote monitoring and diabetes management trends such as GLP-1s.
  • You need a strong understanding of Dexcom CGM, competitive products, and emerging diabetes therapeutics and its application in clinical practice as well as a strong understanding of clinical methodology and study design.

  • You have persuasive communication skills (oral/written), including ability to effectively facilitate both live and virtual scientific exchange with KOLs in the clinical and payer arenas.
  • You must have excellent relationship management skills that build trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders, while leveraging strong project management and time management skills.
  • You are adaptable and thrive under a complex and fast-paced working environment which makes you confident managing expectations from partners while balancing timely delivery of work projects.
  • You are team-focused, and a strong-collaborator yet can work independently and use critical thinking skills to make independent decisions.
  • You think strategically to identify new and innovative approaches to advance CGM awareness, access, and adoption across Japan.
