The Position In Global Engineering, we act as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) supporting major CAPEX projects and driving automation standardization across our global site network. Modern pharmaceutical manufacturing relies on seamless vertical integration between automation hardware on the shop floor and higher-level IT systems.

To accelerate technological development, we are building test environments and standardizing global solutions to ensure robust, future-proof engineering operations across all Roche manufacturing sites. Your main goal will be to: Support global CAPEX projects as an automation Subject Matter Expert (SME). Build and configure an automation sandpit environment to support the IT integration of physical automation hardware.

Support the implementation of new approaches for vertical integration across OT and IT layers. Drive the standardization of automation architecture and practices across different Roche sites. The Opportunity This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in global pharmaceutical engineering and contribute directly to cutting-edge industrial automation strategies.

This will involve: Working alongside Global Engineering SMEs to support complex CAPEX projects across the enterprise. Designing, setting up, and maintaining an automation sandpit environment to safely test and validate hardware-to-IT integration. Evaluating and executing novel approaches to bridge shop-floor hardware with upper-tier IT systems (vertical integration).

Collaborating with cross-functional global teams to define, roll out, and harmonize automation standards across the site network. Documenting system setups and test results to establish best practices for future site deployments. Who you are Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or Life Science (or have graduated no longer than 12 months prior to the start date).

Practical PLC programming skills for at least one type of PLC platform. Solid baseline understanding of Industrial Automation concepts and architectures. Basic network knowledge is a plus.

Good in communicating with people, possess a proactive personality, and have cross-cultural experience to work effectively across global teams. Proficiency in written and verbal English is mandatory; German language skills are a plus. Hands-on exposure to cutting-edge industrial automation hardware and IT integration testing. Mentorship and professional guidance from experienced engineering specialists. Flexible working hours (full-time).

Flexible start date for the internship or thesis (depending on academic requirements). Non-EU/EFTA citizens (m/f/d) must enclose confirmation from their university that they are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of their studies with their application . The letter should also specify the required length of the internship.
