Job Title Global Commodity Manager, Metal Location(s) Singapore Job Description Purpose PerkinElmer is seeking a high-caliber Global Commodity Manager – Metal to lead the global sourcing strategy, supplier performance, commercial excellence, and commodity management across the global supply base.
This strategic leadership role is responsible for developing and executing forward-looking commodity strategies that enhance competitiveness, improve supply resilience, drive sustainable cost optimization, and support new product development. The incumbent will partner closely with Engineering, R&D, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance, and Business Leaders to ensure sourcing strategies align with business growth objectives. The successful candidate demonstrates strong business and financial acumen, exceptional commercial negotiation capability, analytical thinking, resilience, and the ability to influence global stakeholders within a fast-paced matrix organization.
Responsibilities Commodity Strategy, Value & Cost Leadership Develop and execute robust global commodity strategies, translating business priorities into actionable sourcing roadmaps across cost, technology, supply continuity, and risk. Own the end-to-end commodity strategy lifecycle, including supplier segmentation, preferred supplier frameworks, and long-term value creation plans. Drive cost savings and value creation through structured negotiations, should-cost analysis, and VAVE initiatives, supported by a disciplined cost-down funnel with clear execution tracking.
Optimize total cost by leveraging financial levers such as pricing structures, payment terms, working capital improvements, and inbound freight/logistics optimization. Continuously refine supplier footprint to balance technology capability, cost competitiveness, service levels, and risk exposure. Supplier Performance, Capability & Resilience Ensure suppliers have the technical capability, scalability, and capacity headroom to support both current demand and future growth.
Manage supplier performance across quality, delivery, cost, service, and innovation, including structured escalation and improvement programs. Lead supplier risk management, including capacity tracking, financial health monitoring, geopolitical exposure, and contingency planning. Develop and maintain business continuity strategies, including dual sourcing and supply base diversification.
Operational Execution & Supply Continuity Provide hands-on leadership in supply execution, including expediting, shortage mitigation, and delivery recovery. Lead critical supplier escalations (quality, delivery, capacity), ensuring rapid root-cause resolution and sustainable corrective actions. Partner cross-functionally to ensure stable and predictable supply performance.
New Product Introduction (NPI) & Speed-to-Market Partner with and support NPI buyers to ensure on-time product introduction and commercial readiness. Embed commodity strategy into NPI execution, including preferred supplier selection and early supplier involvement during design stages. Drive design-to-cost, manufacturability, and supply scalability, ensuring suppliers can support ramp and lifecycle demand.
Commercial Excellence & Strategic Contracting Own the full strategic sourcing and contracting lifecycle, including RFP/RFI, bid evaluation, supplier selection, and contract negotiation. Lead complex commercial negotiations, optimizing total value across price, service, flexibility, risk allocation, and working capital. Establish robust contract governance and performance frameworks, ensuring compliance and sustained value realization.
Cross-Functional Leadership Partner with R&D, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Logistics, and Finance to align commodity strategies with product and business goals. Leverage data analytics, cost modeling, and market intelligence to drive informed decision-making and influence stakeholders. ESG, Sustainability & Compliance Drive ESG initiatives across assigned commodity portfolios, including sustainability, ethical sourcing, responsible procurement, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure suppliers comply with PerkinElmer's policies, quality standards, environmental requirements, and applicable global regulations. Support supplier sustainability assessments and continuous improvement initiatives. Team Leadership & Capability Building Lead and coach sourcing teams to strengthen commercial acumen, financial rigor, negotiation capability, and supplier management effectiveness.
Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and results orientation. Coach and develop commodity buyers and sourcing professionals to strengthen strategic sourcing capability, commercial negotiation, financial acumen, and supplier management effectiveness. Share commodity expertise and best practices across the global procurement organization.
Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Business Management or any related discipline. 12+ years of experience as Global Sourcing / Procurement - Metal Good technical knowledge of global market sourcing on relevant supply markets related for all Metals and sub-commodities (Sheet metal, castings, forging, machining, etc.) Expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and cost optimization Strong project management skill set & experience in supporting NPI development . Good analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and informed decisions.
Advanced skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint and SAP Ability to manage multiple deliverables, and projects. Good Profiles candidates Knowledge of commodity technologies, materials, and cost drivers. Understanding of supplier manufacturing processes and scalability dynamics.
Familiarity with quality systems (ISO, GMP, Six Sigma, etc.) Experience in should-cost modeling and cost analytics. Ability to leverage AI and digital tools for analytics, risk monitoring, and decision-making.
