About this role

At Lilly, the work is demanding because patients are waiting. We unite caring with discovery to help make life better for people around the world, knowing that every decision, every detail, and every day matters. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, our over 50,000 employees around the globe take on complex challenges to discover and deliver life-changing medicines, strengthen how health is understood and managed, and support the communities we serve.

This is hard, urgent, selfless work—but it’s work worth doing. If you’re driven by purpose and ready to bring your best to work that truly matters for patients, we invite you to join us. Associate Director, eDiscovery As an Associate Director of eDiscovery, you’ll be a strategic and innovative technical leader on Lilly's eDiscovery team, covering the full spectrum of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM).

You'll help translate legal hold, collection, and production obligations into defensible, auditable, and increasingly automated workflows across Lilly's complex, distributed systems. You'll manage the tools, data flows, and vendor platforms that carry evidence from a live business system all the way through analysis and production. You'll also have real input into which AI and automation tools we adopt next in our eDiscovery workflows.

What you'll actually do: Contribute to the strategic roadmap for Lilly's eDiscovery program and help design the technical specs and SOPs that keep every EDRM stage defensible, efficient, and consistent. Share in managing Lilly’s legal hold platform and vendor relationship, balancing daily operational support while driving ongoing technology enhancements to meet evolving needs. Partner with business areas to preserve data per legal hold requirements — from enterprise systems and data lakes to system retirements and acquisition integrations — including legal hold system integration and automation.

Define, automate, and manage data collection from a variety of systems, including various formats and associated metadata along with appropriate chain-of-custody. Share in managing eDiscovery data processing, review, and platform-hosting vendor relationships, including oversight of service quality, efficiency, and cost. Evaluate and partner with vendors to implement AI and machine learning solutions — technology-assisted review (TAR/CAL), predictive coding, and advanced analytics — always within a framework of sound legal review and defensible process.

Advise on complex, ambiguous eDiscovery scenarios, sequencing technical execution against matter deadlines and system constraints without compromising quality or defensibility. Act as a strategic and technical partner to outside counsel, Legal, Privacy, Records Management, IT, Compliance, Cybersecurity, and business stakeholders. Mentor teammates and collaborate cross-functionally to build technical expertise and flexibility across all EDRM stages.

What you'll need (minimum requirements): Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to information systems, computer science, information management, legal studies, or a related field. 6+ years of experience in eDiscovery operations or legal technology, with hands-on experience managing eDiscovery tools and platforms across the EDRM lifecycle. Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1. What sets a strong candidate apart: ACEDS, LegalTech, or similar certification(s). PMP certification.

Experience collecting data from multi-national, multi-system enterprise environments with complex metadata requirements. Experience in automation of eDiscovery workflows. Direct experience implementing TAR/CAL, predictive coding, or analytics tools in a live litigation review.
