SUMMARY
The main objective of the Business Unit Head, Skeletal Conditions – Brazil is to lead BioMarin’s Skeletal Conditions (SC) business across the vosoritide (Voxzogo) portfolio, ensuring the right strategies are in place at each stage of product evolution and in close collaboration with regional and global brand teams. For achondroplasia (ACH), the product is currently in the market-access-building phase, so the role must secure sustainable public and private reimbursement pathways and expand the diagnosis-to-treatment ecosystem. In parallel, the role leads the launch of vosoritide for hypochondroplasia (HCH), driving launch excellence and market shaping for the new indication.
A central mandate is to anticipate and outperform emerging competition for vosoritide – including novel agents in clinical development for achondroplasia – through distinctive positioning and differentiated scientific and value messaging. The role designs a clear marketing and access strategy, fully understands the customer, and ensures flawless field-force execution, with a Marketing leader reporting into the position and direct leadership of the field team. The Business Unit Head is accountable for growth and margin targets, as defined by the budget process, and for taking the SC team of BioMarin Brazil to new heights through a collaborative yet results-oriented approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead BioMarin’s Skeletal Conditions (SC) business in Brazil across the vosoritide (Voxzogo) portfolio – achondroplasia (ACH) and the new hypochondroplasia (HCH) indication. The role carries two complementary dimensions: (1) responsibility over the business strategy and results; and (2) responsibility over the team – marketing, through a Marketing leader, and the field/sales team, directly.
1. Strategy & Business Performance (responsibility over the strategy and results)
- ✓Own the overall commercial strategy for the SC portfolio (ACH and HCH), aligning local execution with regional and global brand strategy.
- ✓Ensure the market-access pathway for achondroplasia (ACH): as the product is in the access-building phase, secure sustainable public and private reimbursement (navigating ANVISA registration, CONITEC/SUS incorporation, ANS and private payers, CMED pricing and the judicial-access landscape) and strengthen the diagnosis-to-treatment ecosystem.
- ✓Lead the launch of vosoritide for hypochondroplasia (HCH): drive launch excellence and market shaping for the new indication – building disease awareness, diagnosis capability and prescriber readiness – and deliver on launch milestones and uptake targets.
- ✓Keep a strong competition focus for vosoritide: anticipate and outperform emerging competitors, including novel oral agents in clinical development for achondroplasia, through distinctive positioning and differentiated scientific and value messaging.
- ✓Define the segmentation and targeting strategy for the portfolio – clearly segmenting the market and prioritising the target physicians, accounts and reference centres so that field and marketing resources are focused where they create the most value.
- ✓Manage sales forecasting and the demand plan, and translate strategy into clear, actionable execution plans with defined KPIs, milestones and follow-up.
- ✓Hold full responsibility for sales and expenditures: deliver the revenue growth and margin targets set in the budget process, and manage the marketing and field budget with discipline and cost-efficiency.
- ✓Influence and help shape the global and regional BU strategy for Skeletal Conditions, bringing the Brazil market perspective and insight into global brand planning.
- ✓Develop a clear and achievable long-term (5-year) strategic plan for the SC business, with a compelling vision and clear brand priorities.
2. Team Leadership (responsibility over the team)
- ✓Marketing – through the Marketing leader: set marketing strategy and priorities and oversee delivery of brand plans, campaigns, scientific and marketing events, congresses and KOL engagement, and the marketing and medical budget.
- ✓Sales / field team – direct leadership: directly lead, coach and manage the performance of the field team – setting territory strategy, call plans and execution plans; engaging treating physicians (geneticists, paediatric endocrinologists, orthopaedists) and reference centres for skeletal dysplasias; supporting early identification, diagnosis and the patient journey; and partnering with patient-advocacy associations.
- ✓Structure, develop and retain a dynamic marketing and field team – building a diverse talent pool, developing key talents through individual development plans, and ensuring succession planning for all positions.
- ✓Establish clear governance and effective cross-functional communication with the Commercial, Access, Regulatory and Medical teams, and manage professional networks across the local, regional and global organization.
- ✓Contributes with clear thought leadership within the Brazil leadership team – bringing an analytical, strategic and insight-driven perspective to country-level decisions.
