Job Title: Business Development Manager, Process Solution Japan

Location: Japan

Reports To: Head of Process Solutions Japan (BU head)

Role Summary

The Business Development Manager is the strategic and operational partner to Process Solutions (PS) Japan Head. Operating at the same organizational level as the Sales Managers, this role helps shape the country organization’s strategy, translates priorities into execution, and strengthens collaboration across functions to unlock growth for the Process Solutions business in Japan.

The successful candidate will be regarded as a potential successor to the Business Unit Head and will demonstrate a strong track record in strategic planning, business growth, cross-functional leadership, talent development, and organizational execution.

Your Role

Strategic and Business Growth

  • Partner with the Head of Process Solutions Japan to shape and execute the organization’s strategy, priorities, and operating agenda.
  • Co-create and implement a clear Japan-wide growth strategy aligned with global and regional priorities.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify growth opportunities across the country and coordinate the resources required to pursue them effectively.
  • Contribute to overall Business Unit performance by leading strategic initiatives and providing the Head of Process Solutions Japan with timely, actionable insights.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Governance

  • Promote alignment, cohesion, and effective collaboration across the four Sales Manager teams.
  • Lead country-level initiatives that require coordinated action across Sales, Commercial Affairs, MSAT, Technical Service, Field Service, ISCO, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Regulatory, and Customer Support.
  • Establish and maintain an effective governance structure and operating cadence for collaboration among Sales Managers and other functions.
  • Influence and enable execution across the Japan organization without relying on formal reporting lines.
  • Represent the Japan organization in relevant regional and global forums, as appropriate.

Leadership, Talent Development, and Succession Readiness

  • Act as a leadership role model and influence associates across Japan organization.
  • Serve as a leadership role model and positively influence associates across the Japan organization.
  • Build and maintain a strong, high-potential talent pipeline for future Business Unit leadership.
  • Identify high-potential talent and support the creation and monitoring of individual development plans (IDPs).
  • Facilitate meaningful career and leadership development conversations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, high performance, continuous learning, and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate the leadership maturity and breadth required for future Business Unit leadership responsibility.
  • Performance Management, Forecasting, and Reporting
  • Define, monitor, and communicate country-level key performance indicators (KPIs) that reflect the Business Unit’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide regular performance insights, analysis, and recommendations to support informed decision-making by the Head of Process Solutions Japan.
  • Ensure robust country-level forecasting and scenario planning.
  • Promote the effective integration of data and analytics into strategic and operational decisions.
  • Enhance transparency and visibility of performance, risks, opportunities, and required actions.

Organizational Capability and Process Improvement

  • Assess the organizational capabilities required to address current and future business needs.
  • Prioritize capability-building initiatives and support their implementation across the organization.
  • Design, standardize, and continuously improve cross-functional processes to increase efficiency and execution quality.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making and the consistent use of relevant tools to strengthen visibility, governance, and accountability.
  • Identify barriers to execution and drive practical solutions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management and External Representation

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key customers, regulators, business partners, and senior internal stakeholders, including C-suite leaders.
  • Represent Process Solutions Japan in executive reviews and major strategic initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Strengthen the organization’s ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and respond with coordinated, value-adding solutions.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 12–15 years of experience in sales leadership, business development, commercial strategy, or a related discipline within the Life Science, Healthcare, or Pharmaceutical industries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives and coordinating multiple teams.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, business growth, and delivering measurable business results.
  • Strong strategic-thinking skills combined with a pragmatic, execution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to influence and lead without formal authority.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to translate data into relevant business insights.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder-management, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated talent-development and coaching mindset.
  • Strong program-management, project-management, and governance capabilities.
  • Ability to navigate change, ambiguity, and complex organizational environments.
  • Growth mindset, resilience, high integrity, and sound ethical judgment.
  • Proactive, action-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders across functions, levels, and geographies.
  • Advanced English proficiency is required to support regional and global collaboration.
