Job Title: Field Application Scientist, Upstream, SEATWO

The Field Application Scientist, Upstream is a member of the Customer Application (CA) team within Process Solutions. The role provides technical leadership for offerings across the Process Materials and Cell Culture Franchise, including cell culture media, cell lines and biopharmaceutical materials, as well as the Single-Use and Integrated Platform Solutions Franchise, including upstream perfusion systems.

As a technical authority in upstream process development and biomanufacturing, the Field Application Scientist partners with customers’ technical teams to provide consultative expertise, practical recommendations and hands-on support. The role helps customers address complex process challenges, accelerate implementation and realize value from innovative upstream solutions.

This role can be taken on based in either Singapore or Taiwan.

Your Role

Technical expertise and thought leadership

  • Serve as the Company’s subject-matter expert in upstream bioprocessing during commercial and technical engagements, helping customers achieve their desired technical and business outcomes.
  • Represent the Company at industry conferences, technical forums and other professional events.
  • Apply scientific expertise, experimental design principles and hands-on process knowledge to solve complex customer challenges and troubleshoot upstream processes.
  • Document technical findings and contribute to case studies, customer references and innovation roadmaps.
  • Maintain current technical collateral, product catalogues and points of view. Monitor competitor activity and customer insights to inform portfolio positioning and business strategy.
  • Design and deliver training for customers and internal teams on upstream bioprocesses and the Company’s innovative upstream offerings.
  • Create and share customer-facing technical materials that strengthen sales enablement and support customer decision-making.

Customer Engagement and Value Realization

  • Engage with customers to understand challenges, market trends and emerging needs across upstream bioprocessing.
  • Provide consultative technical guidance, training and best-practice recommendations to accelerate solution adoption and successful implementation.
  • Support the development, advancement and closure of sales opportunities by translating customer needs into clear technical value propositions.

Internal Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with upstream sales development experts and account managers to deliver a seamless, customer-centric buying journey.
  • Collaborate with franchise teams, R&D and other internal stakeholders to address customer requirements and assess implications for product and technology roadmaps.
  • Act as the technical escalation point during evaluation, adaptation, scale-up and implementation, driving timely resolution of issues and a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and implement process improvements internally and externally, with an emphasis on simplification, responsiveness and urgency.
  • Contribute to technical programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Proactively identify and document opportunities using sales effectiveness tools.
  • Support activities at M Lab Collaboration Centres.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • At least 7 years of experience in biopharmaceutical technical roles focused on upstream bioprocessing, including experience in laboratory, pilot-scale and/or manufacturing-scale environments.
  • Extensive, demonstrated expertise in upstream bioprocess development and biomanufacturing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with upstream cell line and media development, process development, scale-up and implementation studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into practical technical solutions and measurable outcomes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and design of experiments.
  • Working knowledge and practical experience with process control systems, such as PLC and PCS, biopharmaceutical automation practices and FDA data integrity expectations.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand market needs and trends and connect technical solutions to customer and business impact.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional, multicultural and matrixed organization, with strong stakeholder-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, deliver presentations and conduct training for diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders and management.
  • Fluency in English; Mandarin proficiency is highly preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–60% of the time.
