Your Role

As part of the Customer Application (CA) team within Process Solutions, you are responsible for offerings under Process Materials and Cell Culture Franchise (e.g., cell culture media, cell lines, biopharma materials) and Single-Use and Integrated Platform Solutions Franchise (e.g., upstream perfusion systems).

  • Act as the technical expert for upstream process development and biomanufacturing, partnering with customer’s technical teams to deliver consultative guidance and hands-on support.
  • Design, execute, and validate process development, scale-up and implementation studies with customers, aligned with best practices; translating customer needs into technical outcomes.
  • Communicate findings clearing through reports, meetings, and training; build trusted customer relationships and support technical onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

Technical expertise and thought leadership

  • Represent Merck as subject matter technical expert in commercial and technical discussions; drive best-in-class capabilities and thought leadership to enable desired outcomes and impact.
  • Represent Merck as subject matter technical expert in Merck and industrial events; delivery thought leadership activities
  • Apply scientific knowledge, experimental designs and hands-on process design to address complex customer needs and troubleshooting.
  • Capture technical findings and contribute to case studies, references and innovation roadmaps.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical collaterals, catalogs and point of views; track competitor activities and customer insights to influence portfolio positioning and strategy.
  • Deliver training to customers and internal teams on upstream bioprocesses and our upstream innovative offerings.
  • Develop and share customer-facing materials to support sales enablement.

Customer engagement and value realization

  • Engage customers on challenges, trends and activities around upstream bioprocesses.
  • Provide technical consultative guidance, technical training and best practice recommendations to accelerate adoption and implementation
  • Support, nurtures and helps to close sales opportunities

Collaborations with internal stakeholders

  • Partner with upstream sales development experts and account managers for customer centric upstream buying journey.
  • Coordinate with franchise, R&D and other internal stakeholders to address customer needs and roadmap impacts.
  • Serve as escalation point for technical issues during evaluation, adaptation, scale-up and implementation; drive timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Propose internal and external process improvements (simplify and act with urgency) and contribute to technical programs and seminars
  • Proactively identify and capture opportunities using sales effectiveness tools
  • Support M Lab Collaboration Center activities

Who You Are

  • B.S., M.S. or PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related science or engineering discipline
  • 6+ years’ experience in biopharmaceutical technical roles in upstream bioprocesses, in lab, pilot and/or manufacturing scale environments. Extensive years of proven experience and knowledge in upstream bioprocesses.
  • Technical mastery in upstream bioprocesses; strong hands-on upstream cell line, media and process development, scale-up and implementation studies.
  • Proven abilities to translate customer needs into technical outcomes; proficient in data analyses and design of experiments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; capable of delivering reports, presentations and training to diverse audiences including senior internal stakeholders and management.
  • Commercially astute; understands market needs and trends, processes and how technical solutions map technical and business impact.
  • Collaborative; effective team player, in a cross-functional, multicultural matrix environment; strong stakeholder management.
  • Fluent in English, and local language, where applicable
