Your role

As Healthcare Patent Counsel, you will shape the U.S. and global intellectual property strategy for pharmaceutical development projects and commercial products, with a particular focus on digital health and integrated healthcare solutions. You will work at the intersection of pharmaceuticals, software, data, medical devices, and digital health to protect innovation and enable successful development and commercialization. Partnering with scientists, software experts, engineers, and other innovators, you will identify inventions and build patent portfolio strategies that support project and business objectives.

Your work will span combination products, software-enabled medical devices, biomarkers, algorithms, data-driven solutions, and connected health ecosystems. You will draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the United States, Europe, and other international jurisdictions. You will manage oppositions, post-grant proceedings, and other validity matters, including PGRs and IPRs.

You will conduct and oversee freedom-to-operate analyses, turn complex findings into clear recommendations, and support patent enforcement, invalidation proceedings, and related legal opinions. You will provide intellectual property advice and negotiation support for contracts, collaborations, licenses, and business development transactions. As part of an expert group for Digital IP, you will advise colleagues across business areas on software, data analysis, and emerging digital technologies.

Working closely with Pharmaceutical R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, Business Development, and Legal teams, you will counsel senior leaders and help define the future of digital healthcare in a collaborative international environment.

Who you are

You hold a university degree in biomedical engineering, chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related scientific discipline, together with strong bioinformatics expertise.

You are registered to practice before the European Patent Office (EPO) and/or the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

You bring substantial experience in a patent department within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or life sciences industry, or in a law firm advising on digital health, software, medical devices, or related healthcare technologies.

You have a strong understanding of patentability and legal issues relating to software, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics, digital biomarkers, and personalized healthcare.

You have demonstrated experience in patent drafting and prosecution, post-grant proceedings such as oppositions, PGRs, or IPRs, and freedom-to-operate analyses.

You have supported or led contract negotiations involving intellectual property, licensing, collaborations, or related commercial arrangements.

You communicate complex intellectual property matters clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.

You take a collaborative, proactive, and strategic approach, work effectively in international cross-functional teams, and understand the regulatory frameworks for pharmaceutical products, medical devices, and digital health solutions.
