The Senior Manager, Patent Information Scientist (Chemist) supports Eisai’s product creation efforts’ information needs by providing search support for the IP department’s efforts to file patent applications, provide FTO opinions, and evaluate Due Diligence projects.

This role provides US researchers with information support for research activities and provides US business and clinical groups with information to support business and product development. This role leads Library and Information Services Group’s evaluation and selection of new databases or information tools relating to searching to ensure accurate and cost effective searching and available resources, while managing additional Information Scientists. Essential Functions Conduct patentability, freedom to operate, right to market, and IP Due Diligence, competitor pipeline searches including identifying additional and/or unrequested and relevant items of interest (with increased professional independence and issue spotting.) Provide legal status Information and establish legal status alerts.

Prepare and deliver patent search reports to IP Practitioners and/or researchers. Perform miscellaneous searches and information assistance to other LIS clients. 70% Contribute to evaluation of new databases or information tools in terms of cost vs. benefit with input from potential users/stakeholders, end-user training on information resources, content and organization of the library intranet site.

Provide ad hoc assistance to LIS clients on matters such as obtaining articles accessing information resources and resolving technical issues. 20% Supervise and mentor Patent Information Scientist. 10% Requirements Ph.D. or MS in chemistry or a life science (biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, immunology, pharmacology, etc.) or BS/BA with at least one of a) equivalent research experience, b) MLS degree, or c) registration to practice before USPTO.

6-10+ years experience in information services, including at least 5 years in pharmaceutical industry; familiarity with drug development process, and researching issues related to IP, formulations, regulatory, and marketing. MLS degree and/or registration to practice before USPTO preferred. Ability to review scientific/technical/patent documents with strong comprehension of content to identify relevant and material documents.

Familiarity with at least five and proficiency in at least three of the following search types: Chemical structure searching; Chemical reaction searching; Biosequence searching; Competitive Intelligence/Business Intelligence/pipeline database searching; scientific concept searching (e.g. in vivo models, in vitro studies, formulation related publications); Legal research. Thorough knowledge of patent and literature databases such as World Patent Index, Chemical Abstracts (CA), MARPAT, MMS, GENESEQ, MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS, SCISEARCH, IPA, and expertise with search platforms such as STN, DIALOG/DATASTAR, QUESTEL, OVID. Growing ability to prioritize, multi-task, set and/or meet deadlines for short-term and long-term projects; growing ability to seek input from stakeholders for prioritization and managing client expectations.

Outstanding written and oral communication (clear, precise, accurate), including consistent awareness and proper handling of confidential information, privileged information, copyright. Growing experience managing vendor relationships and monitoring usage patterns. Ability to manage and mentor information service colleagues.

Demonstrated understanding of information needs and information-seeking behavior of different client groups. Eisai Salary Transparency Language: The annual base salary range for the Senior Manager, Patent Information Scientist (Chemist) is from :$124,700-$163,700 Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in : Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan.

Final pay determinations will depend on various factors including but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, and skills.
