The Opportunity The Sr Software Engineer hired in this role will work out of the Irving, TX location on site . This is in the Abbott Transfusion Medicine Business Division.

Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. What You’ll Work On The Sr Software Engineer will help develop robotics control and scheduling applications used in a laboratory environment, automating the testing of donor blood and plasma.

The ideal candidate will have experience in motion control and fluidics, utilizing servos and stepper motors to physically move mechanisms into position and valves and pumps to process fluids. Help design and develop software that controls robotic medical devices, following established development processes and healthcare industry regulations. Participate in software development activities, including designing, coding, testing, and validating software to ensure it performs safely and reliably.

Support testing efforts to verify that software meets requirements, follows quality standards, and complies with design specifications. Collaborate with engineers and other team members across multiple disciplines to develop software solutions, define requirements, and document design and testing activities. Contribute to technical documentation, including design reviews, code reviews, software requirements, and testing results.

Develop and maintain low-level software that allows hardware components and devices to communicate and function properly using programming languages such as C and C++. Develop application-level software that controls and automates robotic and mechanical systems, using state-based design methods to manage device behavior and performance. Assist in the evaluation of selected designs through testing and full documentation of the results.

Investigate on-market issues, determine appropriate corrections, and implement those corrections underneath our software engineering process. Required Qualifications Associate's degree with a 10+ years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of related experience.

Master's Degree with 4+ years of related experience. Advanced experience in designing and developing complex software systems. Ability to provide guidance to junior team members.

Advanced knowledge in modern programming languages such as C/C++/C# or Python & agile methodologies. Advanced level of understanding of test-driven methodologies. Advanced level of knowledge with continuous integration & continuous development (CI/CD).

Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop & design at the component-level.

Advanced level understanding of design patterns. Strong analytical & problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications 8 years of experience and a BS degree or 6 years with MS degree..

Experience with unit testing and mocking environments, (Google Unit Test, Google Mock, etc) 5 years experience with RTOS based applications (QNX, etc) and inter-process communications (persistent-publish-subscribe (PPS), application messaging/notifications, google protocol buffers, etc). Solid understanding of C++ and robotics and sensor control including state machine usage (boost statecharts, visual state, etc) and common algorithms (debouncing sensor inputs, slip detection, etc) Understanding of device level communications (as demonstrated by prior work). Preferred location: Irving, TX.

The base pay for this position is $78,000.00 – $156,000.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
