Job Description OBJECTIVES / PURPOSE We are seeking a Principal Analyst to join Takeda's GCC Commercial Insights & Analytics (I&A) organization in India.
This senior individual-contributor role carries the highest level of analytical ownership within the team — leading the most complex, high-visibility workstreams end to end and setting the analytical standard for how insights are generated and delivered to global brand teams. The Principal Analyst is a recognized subject-matter expert and technical authority who shapes analytical direction across workstreams, drives methodology and best practices, and formally mentors the broader analyst community. Own and independently deliver Takeda's most complex, high-visibility analytical workstreams that directly shape global brand strategy, performance management, and commercial execution across multiple brands and indications.
Serve as the recognized subject-matter expert (SME) across pharmaceutical commercial data sources — patient-level claims, EMR, specialty pharmacy, and sales data across multiple markets — setting the standard for how the team generates decision-ready insights with clear business implications. Define and lead the design of patient journey analyses, HCP segmentation models, performance deep-dives, and competitive assessments, ensuring methodological rigor and actionable, evidence-based recommendations for global I&A brand leads and commercial partners. Act as an analytical thought leader and technical authority within the GCC — driving methodology development, analytical best practices, and the formal mentoring and capability-building of Analyst and Senior Analyst colleagues.
ACCOUNTABILITIES Brand Analytics and Insight Generation Lead end-to-end delivery of the most complex performance analytics workstreams, producing reports and dashboards that track brand KPIs — including patient shares, new starts, source of business, adherence, and HCP engagement — across global, regional, and country levels, and setting the quality bar for the team. Integrate and analyze diverse commercial data sources across markets — including real-world data (claims, EMR/EHR, lab data), specialty pharmacy data, sales data, and channel data — to generate comprehensive patient and HCP insights that support brand strategy and launch readiness. Define and govern business rules for processing raw patient-level data, leveraging deep understanding of data nuances, commercial context, and market knowledge to ensure analytical accuracy, consistency, and reproducibility across the team.
Drive advanced, self-directed exploratory data analysis (EDA) and opportunity prospecting — moving well beyond basic pulls (counts, topline, segmentation, time trends) to surface non-obvious commercial opportunities and hypotheses that shape brand strategy. Own the most complex custom reporting and ad hoc analysis requests with independent hypothesis formulation, rigorous methodology, and well-documented, insight-rich outputs, and guide others in doing the same. Patient / HCP Cohort Development and Segmentation Set the standard for patient and HCP cohorts built on standard business rules and deterministic logic, ensuring definitions are clinically sound, reproducible, and aligned with brand and indication requirements.
Lead the development of advanced cohort and segmentation approaches — including cluster and probabilistic models — to support sophisticated patient/HCP targeting, prioritization, and micro-segmentation for global brand teams. Data Ops and Automation Perform ETL and define reusable patterns to acquire, clean, transform, and structure raw data from multiple sources into analysis-ready datasets. Design and orchestrate data pipelines that support recurring analytics and reporting, improving reliability, scalability, and reproducibility of team deliverables.
Proactively identify and lead opportunities to automate and scale recurring reporting and analytical workflows, establishing efficiency and reproducibility standards for the team. Data Visualization and Reporting Excellence Design and govern Tableau or Power BI dashboards and reporting tools that clearly communicate brand performance trends, patient funnel dynamics, and field force activity to global stakeholders, and set visualization best practices for the team. Establish, standardize, and govern KPIs and metrics — including patient shares, duration of therapy (DoT), adherence rates, source of business, and campaign effectiveness — across global markets, regions, and channels.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication Partner directly with GCC Managers and global I&A brand leads to clarify analytical requirements, shape deliverable scope, and communicate progress and implications proactively. Synthesize findings from multiple data sources into cohesive, decision-oriented analytical stories with clear “so what” implications and actionable recommendations tailored to global brand and commercial audiences. Formally mentor Analyst and Senior Analyst colleagues, reviewing their outputs, explaining methodological choices, and actively supporting their professional development and analytical growth.
Lead team knowledge management by defining and documenting analytical methods, data source guides, design patterns, and reusable query libraries. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor's Degree required in Statistics, Data Science, Life Sciences, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree or MBA in a relevant analytical or business field is strongly preferred.
Experience: 5–6 years of progressive quantitative analytical experience in pharmaceutical commercial analytics or healthcare analytics, with a demonstrated track record of independently owning and leading complex analytical deliverables. Deep working knowledge of pharma commercial datasets across markets: patient-level claims (e.g., IQVIA, Komodo Health, Symphony Health), specialty pharmacy, EMR, and sales data is required. Hands-on experience with data beyond claims is strongly preferred, including lab data, EMR/EHR, medical and regulatory coding systems (e.g., ICD, procedure/reimbursement codes), public datasets (e.g., government and financial), and research literature sources such as Citeline and PubMed.
Advanced proficiency in coding techniques such as SQL, SAS, R, or Python for data manipulation and workflow automation; advanced Excel skills required. Familiarity with API programming to acquire data via formal APIs, and with using GenAI tools (e.g., Claude Code) as a coding partner to accelerate analytical work. Expert-level experience with Tableau or Power BI for performance and brand analytics dashboard development, including setting design and governance standards.
Working knowledge of Databricks or cloud-based analytics platforms. Experience supporting global or regional brand teams or cross-functional analytics programs is strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies: Advanced Commercial Data Analysis — Independently designs, executes, and leads the most complex analyses using multi-source, multi-market pharma commercial datasets; interprets results with deep domain context and sets analytical direction.
Data Pulls & Exploration — Drives advanced, self-directed EDA and opportunity prospecting well beyond basic pulls to surface non-obvious commercial opportunities. Cohort Development & Segmentation — Leads deterministic, business-rule-based cohorts and advanced probabilistic and cluster-model approaches for patient/HCP targeting. Technical Proficiency — Advanced SQL; working Python/R; API programming for data acquisition; uses GenAI as a coding partner; fluency in Databricks or cloud platforms.
Data Storytelling — Translates complex findings from multiple data sources into executive-ready narratives with explicit business implications and clear recommendations. Stakeholder Communication — Communicates analytical findings persuasively to global I&A leads and cross-functional partners; adapts framing to technical and commercial audiences. Automation & Efficiency — Proactively identifies and leads workflow improvements using code, pipelines, or process redesign, setting efficiency standards for the team.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship — Acts as a technical authority; formally mentors Analysts and Senior Analysts on analytical techniques, data interpretation, and quality standards. Problem-Solving — Frames ambiguous business questions into structured hypotheses; comfortable navigating complexity and data limitations. Intangible Skills: Curiosity — Naturally inquisitive; digs beneath surface results to understand the “why” behind the data.
Confidence — Willing to take a point of view, defend analytical choices, and engage senior stakeholders. Reflective — Reviews own work critically, learns from feedback, and refines methods over time. High Risk Tolerance — Comfortable experimenting with new methods, tools, and approaches under ambiguity.
Organized — Manages multiple workstreams, timelines, and documentation with discipline and structure. English Fluency — High command of written and spoken English for clear communication with global stakeholders. TAKEDA LEADERSHIP BEHAVIORS In alignment with Takeda's Values-Based Culture, this role requires demonstration of the following leadership behaviors: Act with Integrity — Deliver accurate, transparent work and take full responsibility for quality.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally — Contribute positively to GCC and global team workflows and cross-functional collaboration.
