Purpose and Scope

The Data Operations Specialist is responsible for implementing practical and efficient ways to organize and process data, to enable measurement, analytics and reporting that will be used to develop actionable insight for inclusion in reports that communicate the value of Data Strategy activities. In this role, you are to build and cultivate trusted partnerships with groups from various areas of the company (within Data Strategy and outside such as with Omnichannel Strategy & Operations, Information Systems (DX), Finance, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, etc.) as well as with external vendors/suppliers. Your focus is enforcing data standards.

Your pivotal responsibility lies in fostering effective collaboration, communication, and strategic alignment with the mentioned groups to propel the Data Strategy practice forward in the quality and efficiency of their analytics and reporting. This role operates within the Customer Engagement Excellence (CEE) group, which supports capabilities across VALUE Delivery, including Commercial (Sales/Marketing), Market Access and Medical Affairs, whilst prioritizing ethical decision making. During all such activities, there is a need to ensure that the integrity and independence of Medical Affairs capabilities is not compromised.

You are expected to proactively communicate and consult with your Chapter and Value Team Leads as necessary to ensure that the integrity and independence of Medical Affairs is maintained at all times.

This is a global role that is also expected to build trusted partnerships with global, regional, and affiliate groups from various areas of the company (with co-colleagues within Value Delivery and outside such as Information Systems (DX), Brand teams, Procurement, HR, etc.) as well as with external vendors/suppliers. Your strategic mindset and commitment to modern data technologies will be key in shaping our data landscape.

The Chapter Member receives capability and skillset development under the guidance of the Chapter Lead, who provides coaching and mentoring within the Agile model.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Data Sourcing & Acquisition:

o Work closely with Business to understand data needs, assess and prioritize new data use cases, and ensure Analytics Data Layer supports business reporting and measurable outcomes.

o Conduct due diligence to validate data quality, reliability, and alignment with business objectives.

o Serve as an SME for data pipeline (including ADL, Databricks, and legacy data management) and technical SME for dashboards which consume data.

o Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency gains in data workflows, processes, and systems.

o Continuously evaluate tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve data operations efficiency and scalability.

  • Data Onboarding:

o Ensure data is properly formatted, validated, and transformed for marketing analytics and reporting, holding external vendors accountable for data accuracy and timeliness.

o Establish data validation frameworks to assess the completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of onboarded datasets, implementing monitoring mechanisms to detect and resolve integration issues proactively.

o Partner with IT teams to ensure smooth integration of new data sources into the organization's data infrastructure.

o Clean, standardize, and transform data to align with marketing and analytical requirements.

o Create and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries and metadata documentation.

  • Data Management & Governance:

o Define, implement, and ensure adherence to data standards for structure, consistency, and interoperability across systems and teams.

o Oversee the storage, organization, and accessibility of promotional marketing data ensuring compliance with internal governance standards.

o Develop and enforce data quality standards to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.

o Partner with stakeholders to create standardized data taxonomies and classification frameworks to improve usability.

o Partner with stakeholders to transform ingested data into analytic ready formats.

o Monitor and troubleshoot data issues, implementing corrective measures when necessary, communicating data-related issues and resolutions to stakeholders.

o Provide strategic guidance on data source quality, context and usage based on business needs and analytical use cases.

o Coordinate and facilitate data source changes and communication to necessary business stakeholders.

o Assist the Data Foundation Pod in triaging new projects to determine appropriate ownership and/or engagement from the Value Teams within and outside of the Data Foundation Pod, necessary Capability teams, and potentially other Hub groups.

o Champion the adoption of Agile methodology in both project delivery and continuous integrations and continuous delivery (CI/CD) of efficient and scalable data management, reporting, and analytics solutions.

  • Medical Affairs Enablement:

o Contribute to the expansion of Medical Affairs systems and solutions which may include Clinical Trial Management (CTMS), external funding and grants, Vault Medical content management system, and medical incident reporting functions.

o Ensure that data operations supporting Medical Affairs preserve the integrity and independence of the function, applying appropriate governance, access controls, and privacy safeguards when onboarding and managing medical, clinical, and R&D data sources.

  • Reporting & Automation:

o Provide regular updates on data availability, integrity, and performance to key stakeholders.

o Maintain a schedule for data delivery and loading.

o Identify and implement opportunities for process automation to enhance operational efficiency.

o Stay informed on emerging industry trends and advancements in marketing data and data management, advising leadership on innovative solutions that complement and drive business growth.

  • Agile:

o Utilize agile approaches, collaborate in agile ceremonies and Ways of Working to ensure effective delivery for the business

o Collaborate and foster a culture of collaboration, flexibility, and responsiveness to change, enabling the team to thrive in an agile environment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Information/Data Science, Information Systems, or STEM field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in data management, with a focus on digital marketing datasets
  • Experience in sourcing, onboarding, and managing large datasets from external vendors.
  • Proficiency with a coding language (e.g. SQL, Python), MS Excel and PowerPoint, ETL/data processing tools.
  • Exposure to and/or good understanding of Data Warehousing/Data Lakehouse platforms and technologies (e.g., AWS S3/RedShift, SQL, etc.)
  • Good understanding of data stewardship and governance concepts (e.g., data ingestion, reference data management, data transformations, data quality and observability, data archiving, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements as well as underlying infrastructure applications, systems, and processes. Proven experience in process mapping, process improvement, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability in taking initiative to proactively evaluate existing strategies and processes and recommend best-fit solutions when appropriate.
  • Deep understanding of marketing data types (campaign data, engagement metrics, media spend) and their applications.
  • Familiarity with marketing tech platforms like CM360, SA360, Meta.
  • Experience working with Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Qlik, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proven ability to align data initiatives with business objectives, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning and business change management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage cross-functional projects.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and influencing skills to effectively interact to a diverse audience.
  • Extensive computer proficiency in other Microsoft products: Excel, VBA, Macros, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer or Information/Data Science, Information Systems, or STEM field
  • Understanding of Data models for platforms like CM360
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience working with Databricks
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, engineering, operations, and reporting within the Life Sciences/Pharma industry across Commercial, Medical (R&D), and Finance domains.
  • Familiarity with Medical Affairs data sources and systems (e.g., CTMS, Vault Medical, medical incident reporting) and with secondary data sources commonly used in Life Sciences (e.g., script level, patient longitudinal, promotional, omnichannel data).
  • Experience supporting the US market (preferred but not required).
