Develop the next generation of analytical methods used to detect banned substances in sport and specialist testing programmes worldwide.

LGC Assure Sports & Specialised Analytical Services is a globally recognised testing laboratory specialising in anti-doping and sports medication control, human drug testing, and supplement certification. Our work supports sporting organisations, regulators, and customers around the world, helping to protect the integrity of sport and ensure confidence in testing outcomes.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Analytical Scientist to join our Innovation team in Fordham.

This is not a routine testing role. Working at the forefront of analytical science, you'll combine your expertise in LC-MS with scientific curiosity and problem-solving to tackle emerging analytical challenges, develop novel detection methods, and create new analytical capabilities that have a real-world impact.

From supporting anti-doping programmes and elite sport to advancing analytical solutions for specialist testing applications, you will play a key role in helping shape the future direction of our laboratory and testing services.

If you enjoy developing new methods, solving complex scientific problems, and applying innovative thinking to analytical science, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop, optimise, and validate novel analytical methods using LC-MS technologies.
  • Design and improve extraction techniques, sample preparation approaches, and analytical workflows.
  • Configure, operate, troubleshoot, and optimise LC-MS instrumentation to generate high-quality analytical data.
  • Analyse and interpret complex datasets to identify trends, solve analytical challenges, and support scientific decision-making.
  • Lead and contribute to innovation projects focused on developing new detection capabilities and responding to emerging analytical challenges.
  • Collaborate with scientific and operational teams to develop, evaluate, and implement new analytical solutions.
  • Support the transfer of new methods and technologies into routine laboratory operations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality, accuracy, and delivery against agreed timelines.
  • Produce clear scientific documentation, including validation reports, technical summaries, and project updates.
  • Present scientific findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Provide technical expertise during customer discussions and contribute to the development of analytical solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory operations, analytical methods, and scientific processes.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements and established quality standards.

You are an experienced analytical scientist with a passion for method development, innovation, and solving complex scientific problems.

Essential

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Significant experience working within an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Strong practical experience with LC-MS instrumentation, including method development, optimisation, troubleshooting, and validation.
  • Experience developing analytical methods and sample preparation workflows.
  • Strong understanding of chromatography and analytical method validation principles.
  • Ability to interpret complex analytical data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience producing scientific reports and technical documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and solutions-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Experience within a commercial testing, contract laboratory, or regulated laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation standards and quality systems.
  • Experience with high-resolution accurate mass (HRAM) technologies, including Orbitrap platforms.
  • Experience working with GC-MS/MS instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of anti-doping, sports medication control, toxicology, forensic science, or supplement testing.
  • Experience presenting scientific findings to customers or external stakeholders.

Why join us?

Few analytical science roles offer the opportunity to apply cutting-edge LC-MS expertise to challenges that directly support the integrity of sport and specialist testing programmes worldwide.

As part of our Innovation team, you'll

  • Develop novel analytical methods rather than perform routine testing.
  • Work on emerging scientific challenges and investigate new substances and detection approaches.
  • Apply advanced LC-MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry techniques to solve complex analytical problems.
  • Contribute to testing programmes that support anti-doping, equine sport, human drug testing and supplement certification.
  • Collaborate with highly experienced scientists in a world-renowned specialist laboratory.
