A Day in the Life of our Software Test Engineering Team: As a Principal Software Test Engineer within the PCS organization, you will be involved in verification of the software ecosystem supporting Medtronic implantable cardiac devices and will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development process. Medtronic PCS teams develop the next generation medical technologies that save lives, improve quality of living for millions of patients across the world.
The team works with various software technologies in application software, network software, mobile software, BT/BLE communication software, and interfacing with embedded software for management and control of implantable medical devices. The team is seeking a proactive, self-motivated, and highly skilled software development engineer in test to lead the charge in building the next generation of CRM solutions. This role demands innovative thinking, a strong background in test automation, and a passion for creating robust, scalable systems that drive exceptional user experiences.
In this role, you will design and build scalable automation frameworks, influence engineering best practices, and collaborate closely with R&D, software engineering, and quality partners to improve software quality, delivery predictability, and compliance in a regulated medical device environment. Primary Responsibilities: Complete ownership for preparing test automation solution, designing automation frameworks and lead the implementation of test strategy, test plans & test execution of the product. Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other engineering artifacts, ensuring timely delivery to meet program commitments.
Guide project test engineering decisions and direction. Take the high level requirements and independently complete test development per the defined processes. Design and execute project test plans and strategies.
Design, develop, and maintain automation tools and frameworks supporting software verification. Partner with R&D and Quality teams to define verification strategies that accelerate development while meeting regulatory requirements. Champion continuous improvement using lean principles to improve quality, speed, and productivity.
Support test infrastructure setup, validation, and ongoing maintenance. Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a collaborative, learning‑focused team environment. Act as a technical leader influencing automation strategy, tooling decisions, and engineering best practices.
Drive alignment across engineering, quality, and DevOps teams in a matrixed organization. Serve as a trusted technical advisor to peers and leaders Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to support code development, refactoring, automation, and troubleshooting—applying strong judgment to validate outputs. Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and support parallel and distributed test execution.
Apply system integration, risk‑based testing, and test evidence generation practices to support quality and compliance. Key Skills & Experience Must Have: Bachelor’s degree (Level 8 NFQ) in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline. Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2+ years relevant experience.
Hands-on test automation experience using the likes of Appium and Selenium. Experience in preparing test strategy, test plans & test execution of product. Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages: Java, C#, Java Script, Python.

Nice to Have: Experience in working in a mobile environment with both Android and iOS Domain Experience: Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or the Healthcare space, especially around healthcare data, HIPAA, and data privacy.
