Position Summary
The Inventory Manager is responsible for the physical and systematic management of inventory in support of the Microbiology department, following cGMP regulatory standards and SOPs to ensure the product is safe, pure, and effective. This position owns day-to-day ordering and issuing of materials, supplies, and reagents; maintains accurate master data; and builds and sustains a robust inventory control program across SAP (Warehouse Management) and MODA (Laboratory Inventory Management System), including the interface between the two systems that supports Microbiology testing operations.
Job Responsibilities
- ✓Manage the day-to-day ordering, receiving, and issuing of consumables, reagents, media, and testing supplies for the Microbiology department
- ✓Own and maintain physical and system inventory accuracy, including scheduled cycle counts and reconciliation of on-hand stock to SAP and MODA records
- ✓Serve as the subject matter expert for SAP Warehouse Management and MODA Laboratory Inventory Management System, including supporting and maintaining the interface between the two systems
- ✓Create, maintain, and govern master data (materials, vendors, storage locations, units of measure, batch/lot and expiration data) to ensure accuracy and consistency across SAP and MODA
- ✓Develop, implement, and continuously improve inventory control procedures, including min/max levels, reorder points, and expiration/shelf-life management, to minimize discrepancies, stockouts, and obsolete stock
- ✓Partner with Microbiology, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Procurement, and IT to define system interface requirements, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and support system enhancements
- ✓Initiate purchase requisitions and coordinate with Procurement and vendors to ensure timely availability of materials to support testing schedules
- ✓Investigate, document, and resolve inventory variances; support deviation and CAPA investigations related to inventory or master data as needed
- ✓Train and provide guidance to department staff on inventory transactions, master data entry, and proper use of SAP and MODA
- ✓Generate and analyze inventory metrics and reports (e.g., accuracy, turns, aging, usage trends) and communicate findings to management
- ✓Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant storage and laboratory support area in accordance with cGMP and safety requirements
- ✓Ensure inventory practices comply with cGMP, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements
- ✓Perform other duties as assigned
- ✓This position may be involved with the handling of hazardous materials/waste
Experience Requirements
- ✓3-5 years of inventory control/warehouse management experience, preferably within a pharmaceutical or other cGMP-regulated environment
- ✓3+ years of SAP experience required, including Warehouse Management and/or Materials Management modules
- ✓Experience with a laboratory inventory management system (MODA or similar) strongly preferred
- ✓Demonstrated experience with master data management/data governance
- ✓Working knowledge of cGMP regulations and quality systems
- ✓Must be able to read and write English with strong written and verbal communication skills
- ✓Must have strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- ✓Must have excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities without undue stress or errors
- ✓Prior experience training or leading others preferred
- ✓Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory/reporting tools
Education Requirements
- ✓Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- ✓High School diploma required
