About this role

About Artos

At Artos, we build tools that help biopharma companies create and manage their R&D documentation in a fraction of the time. If you’re looking to join a team whose mission is to fundamentally change the way that drug development gets done, we’d love to talk to you.

Customer demand is growing rapidly, and we’re looking for a talented, startup-minded engineer to help us accelerate development of a product used by companies ranging from innovative biotech startups to some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

As a core member of Artos’s engineering team, you’ll play a critical role in building, scaling, and expanding the Artos platform. You’ll work across the stack, developing intuitive product experiences, robust backend systems, and AI-powered workflows that help life sciences companies bring life-saving treatments to patients faster.

What You’ll Do

Own and build product features end-to-end, from React and TypeScript interfaces through backend services, APIs, data models, and production deployment

Design intuitive experiences for complex, document-heavy enterprise workflows while building the systems required to make them reliable, performant, and scalable

Develop AI-native product experiences that allow users to generate, review, validate, and interact with AI-generated scientific and regulatory content

Work closely with product, design, AI, and customer-facing teams to turn real customer problems into high-quality software

Make pragmatic technical and architectural decisions, improve the platform as it scales, and take responsibility for your work from initial concept through production

Move quickly in an environment where requirements evolve, problems aren't always clearly defined, and engineers are expected to help determine what should be built—not simply how to build it

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production web applications

Strong experience with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend development, along with experience building backend services and APIs using Python, Node.js, or similar technologies

Solid understanding of application architecture, API design, databases, testing, and the fundamentals required to build reliable production systems

Experience building complex, data-intensive product experiences and integrating frontend applications with backend services

Strong product judgment and the ability to simplify complicated technical or business workflows into intuitive software

Comfortable owning problems across the stack, debugging unfamiliar systems, and making sound technical decisions without requiring perfect specifications

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving startup environment

BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have

Experience with LLM or GenAI-powered applications, document processing, RAG or retrieval systems, Docker/cloud infrastructure, or regulated industries such as life sciences or healthcare is a plus, but not required.

Why Artos

You’ll join a small, highly technical team where engineers have meaningful ownership over both the product and the technology behind it. You’ll work on challenging problems at the intersection of AI, enterprise software, and life sciences, with the ability to influence architecture, product direction, and how we build as the company scales.

We’re looking for engineers who like owning difficult problems, shipping quickly, and building products that have a meaningful real-world impact.

Other Information

Very comfortable working in a fast-paced and intense startup environment

Willing to work in-person in our office in Mission Bay 4-5 days/week

Likes matcha KitKats, believes every LLM prompt is just Schrödinger’s cat waiting to be observed, and knows too many random facts about the Mongol postal system
