Human Resources Generalist I – HRIS & Benefits Administration

Location: Durham

Department: Human Resources

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Human Resources Generalist I – HRIS & Benefits Administration to support key HR operations, including HRIS administration, employee benefits, leave programs, reporting, compliance, and employee support.

Key Responsibilities

HRIS & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate employee information and process HR transactions, including hires, transfers, promotions, compensation changes, leaves, and terminations.
  • Perform routine data audits and quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for HRIS functionality, workflows, and employee/manager self-service.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and partner with IT and vendors on resolutions, updates, testing, and enhancements.
  • Maintain HRIS documentation and identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Create and distribute HR reports, dashboards, and workforce analytics related to headcount, turnover, absenteeism, hiring, and other workforce trends.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, changes, and terminations.
  • Respond to employee benefit questions and provide education regarding plans and eligibility.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment activities and employee communications.
  • Partner with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators to resolve issues and maintain accurate records.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and eligibility reports and maintain accurate payroll deductions.
  • Support retirement plan administration, benefit audits, and compliance requirements, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.

Leave, Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Support administration of FMLA, ADA accommodations, parental, military, jury duty, and company leave programs.
  • Maintain accurate leave records and coordinate with employees, managers, and third-party administrators.
  • Provide guidance to employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace practices.
  • Assist the HR Manager with employee relations matters and investigations.
  • Maintain personnel records and support HR audits, regulatory reporting, record retention, and compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
  • Paylocity Experience huge +
