Position Summary: The Director, New Product Planning & Commercial Diligence will play a key commercial leadership role in evaluating external innovation and advancing acquired and internal pipeline assets through development toward commercialization. The Director will lead commercial diligence for assigned external opportunities in support of Business Development initiatives, leading selected asset assessments and coordinating inputs across New Product Planning, Forecasting, Pricing & Market Access, Market Research & Insights, and other Commercial functions. Business Development will lead the overall diligence and transaction process; however, this role will develop and integrate commercial inputs into diligence by providing clear commercial assessments and decision-ready recommendations for senior leadership.

For selected acquired assets, the Director may also serve as Commercial Lead on the Asset Strategy Team helping shape integrated asset strategy, Target Product Profile, evidence needs, commercialization planning and long-term value creation. Responsibilities : Business Development Commercial Diligence Lead commercial diligence for selected external opportunities, from initial assessment through comprehensive diligence Conduct market assessments for market potential of external opportunities, including evaluating unmet need, addressable patient populations, treatment dynamics, pricing potential and competition Coordinate commercial subject-matter experts, define key diligence questions, integrate functional inputs, and challenge critical assumptions. Lead primary and secondary research to validate external market assumptions, understand stakeholder needs, and address knowledge gaps.

Partner with Forecasting, Patient Access, and Commercial Insights & Analytics to develop forecast scenarios, pricing assumptions, and valuation inputs. Translate scientific, clinical, market, and financial insights into clear commercial investment theses, including opportunities, risks, uncertainties, and go/no-go recommendations. Develop and present Commercial assessments and recommendations in partnership with the Executive Director, New Product Planning, supporting Business Development governance and executive decision-making.

Commercial Lead & Asset Strategy Team Membership (for acquired assets) Serve as Commercial Lead on the Asset Strategy Team for selected acquired or internal development-stage assets. Ensure continuity of key Commercial assumptions, risks and value drivers from diligence into asset development. Provide the Commercial perspective to the integrated asset strategy, clinical development, evidence generation, TPP, lifecycle planning and commercialization decisions.

Lead or co-lead cross-functional strategic initiatives such as TPP development, opportunity assessment, indication prioritization, market development, and commercialization planning. Partner with the Asset Strategy Lead and cross-functional team to identify strategic options, trade-offs, risks, and value-creation opportunities. Develop and maintain the Commercial strategy and commercialization roadmap until asset transition to dedicated downstream product launch team, as appropriate.

Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business, Life Sciences or related discipline required; advanced degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered. 10+ years of progressive experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or a related field.

Experience in two or more of the following areas: New Product Planning, Business Development/commercial diligence, product strategy, forecasting/analytics, market research, pricing/market access, or strategic marketing. Candidates with relevant cross-functional development experience may also be considered, provided they demonstrate strong core Commercial experience. Demonstrated experience evaluating development-stage assets and translating scientific, clinical and market information into Commercial recommendations.

Experience leading cross-functional strategic initiatives such as asset assessments, TPP development or commercialization planning. U.S. Commercial experience required; international experience preferred.

Rare disease, specialty market and/or nephrology or metabolic experience preferred. Additional Skills/Experience/Requirements: Strong scientific and clinical acumen with the ability to assess clinical data, trial design and endpoints from a Commercial perspective. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate forecasts, market models and commercial scenarios.

Solid understanding of pharmaceutical development and end-to-end commercialization. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority, including with VS- and SVP-level stakeholders. Strong judgment in situations involving uncertainty and incomplete information.

Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate clear, decision-oriented recommendations. Entrepreneurial, hands-on operating style suited to a fast-paced biotechnology environment. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally as required. All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Target Base Pay Range: $189,000.00 - $246,000.00 *This information is current as of the date of this posting and may be modified in the future. Actual pay offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and location.
