JOB DESCRIPTION: The Opportunity The Director, Global Medical Education & Training - Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions (TMTI) is critical to the strategic development, execution and delivery of comprehensive training and education programs for both Health Care Providers (HCP) and the Structural Heart Field Team, with a goal to advance the safe and effective use of TMTI therapies. As the global point of contact for internal and external education initiatives, this Director will lead the design and execution of a comprehensive, compliant education strategy that accelerates adoption of the company’s TMTI portfolio worldwide. This role will collaborate closely with a global network of physicians as well as Abbott leadership and key internal functions (including Medical Affairs, Global and Regional Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Research & Development, Regulatory, Legal and Quality) to strategically align medical education and training initiatives with key business strategies.
The position reports directly to the Structural Heart Global Head of Professional Relations and Education. Location: Remote in the United States Travel both in United States and internationally (30–40%) What You’ll Work On Internal Training (Commercial & Launch Enablement) Global sales onboarding: Develop and deliver foundational product and therapy knowledge programs for global sales teams, clearly distinguishing product knowledge from selling skills. Global launch training: Provide clinical and product education to support global launch readiness; collaborate with regional enablement teams for localization.
Regional enablement: Partner with regional training leads to ensure consistent execution of internal education aligned with global standards. External Education (HCPs, Clinicians, Patients) Global program design: Create non-promotional, clinically focused education programs for physicians and allied professionals, ensuring compliance with Global Regulatory bodies and codes. Regional execution partnerships: Collaborate with regional training leads for localized delivery.
Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement: Build and maintain relationships with global KOLs to enable peer-to-peer education, advisory boards, and proctoring programs. Global Curriculum & Digital Development Curriculum architecture: Define standardized global curricula for portfolio education, ensuring alignment with product IFUs, regulatory requirements, and clinical best practices. Instructional design & digital platforms: Lead development of agile, on-demand learning solutions, including train-the-trainer programs, virtual simulations, and modular e-learning through digital tools, immersive technologies, and scalable frameworks.
Content governance: Establish and support governance and SOPs for global training and education programs, ensuring compliance with global regulatory and regional bodies and codes; implement continuous improvement based on learner feedback and performance metrics. Monitor program effectiveness using competency assessments, adoption metrics, and compliance audits. Leadership and Capability Building Prepare and manage budget, providing forecasting estimates and explanations to support LBE cycles.
Develop talent, strengthen organizational capabilities and build succession plans across the Global Training & Education network. Anticipate capability trends in the field and prepare the Abbott-wide talent pipelines for both short- and long-term business needs. Ensure performance measures, developmental activities, and people resources are optimized to meet the current and future challenges of the organization.
Experience You'll Bring Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Strong clinical background 8-10+ years in medical education, clinical training, or related roles within MedTech or healthcare Proven experience designing global training programs and engaging KOLs Deep understanding of cardiovascular therapies and interventional procedures Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree Cath Lab and/or Interventional Cardiology experience The base pay for this position is $149,300.00 – $298,700.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
