Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
The Data Manager is responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving data across pharmaceutical processes and systems. The role ensures that data is accurate, complete, consistent, secure, and available to support business operations, reporting, decision-making, and regulatory requirements.
The Data Manager works closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Medical Affairs, Commercial, IT, and other business teams, to establish effective data management processes and ensure data integrity throughout its lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Governance
- ✓Manage and maintain pharmaceutical data across relevant systems and databases.
- ✓Ensure data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity.
- ✓Develop and implement data management standards, processes, and procedures.
- ✓Define and maintain data ownership, data definitions, and data quality rules.
- ✓Identify data issues and coordinate their resolution with relevant stakeholders.
- ✓Support data cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and quality improvement activities.
Data Quality & Compliance
- ✓Monitor data quality and establish appropriate data quality controls.
- ✓Investigate data discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- ✓Ensure data management activities comply with applicable company policies, GxP requirements, and relevant regulatory standards.
- ✓Maintain appropriate documentation, audit trails, and data governance records.
- ✓Support internal and external audits and inspections where required.
- ✓Contribute to continuous improvement of data management processes.
Reporting & Analytics
- ✓Provide reliable, well-structured data to support business reporting and analysis.
- ✓Develop and maintain data reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
- ✓Work with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
- ✓Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improving data quality and business processes.
Systems & Stakeholder Management
- ✓Collaborate with IT and system owners on data-related requirements, system enhancements, integrations, and migrations.
- ✓Support implementation and maintenance of data management tools and platforms.
- ✓Participate in data migration, system implementation, and testing activities.
- ✓Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve data-related issues.
- ✓Provide guidance and support to users on data management standards and processes.
Data Governance & Continuous Improvement
- ✓Support the development and implementation of data governance frameworks.
- ✓Establish and maintain data standards, taxonomies, and data dictionaries.
- ✓Identify opportunities to automate manual data management activities.
- ✓Contribute to process improvement initiatives and the standardisation of data across the organisation.
- ✓Promote a strong culture of data quality and data ownership.
Qualifications & Experience
- ✓Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Business, Information Management, or a related discipline.
- ✓Relevant experience in data management within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industry.
- ✓Experience working with large and complex datasets and data management systems.
- ✓Understanding of pharmaceutical data, processes, and regulatory requirements.
- ✓Experience with data quality, data governance, data validation, and data reconciliation.
- ✓Experience with databases, reporting tools, and/or data analytics platforms.
- ✓Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL, Power BI, or similar tools is an advantage.
Preferred Experience
- ✓Experience in a GxP-regulated environment.
- ✓Knowledge of clinical, safety, regulatory, commercial, or manufacturing data, depending on the business area.
- ✓Experience with data standards and master data management.
- ✓Experience supporting system implementations, data migrations, or integrations.
- ✓Familiarity with pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and data integrity principles.
