The Company

We are Alloy Therapeutics — a biotechnology ecosystem and Product Development Organization (PDO) empowering the global scientific community to make better medicines together. Through a community of partners, we democratize access to pre-competitive tools, technologies, services, and company creation capabilities that are foundational for discovering and developing therapeutic biologics. The company facilitates affordable, non-exclusive access to the entire drug discovery community from academic scientists, small and medium biotech, to the largest biopharma.

At Alloy, we believe our industry should compete on getting the best drugs to patients as quickly as possible, not exclusive access to the best platforms. As a reflection of our relentless commitment to the scientific community, we reinvest 100% of our revenue in innovation and access to innovation. May the Best Drug Win.

Alloy has evolved from a startup into a global product development organization operating 11 divisions across 5 research sites in 4 countries on 3 continents. Our model - Integrated Independence - combines centralized capabilities with entrepreneurial operating divisions. Successful members thrive in our shared culture of accountability, deliberate trust, and open communication.

As a team we aspire to work together to exceed expectations and collectively contribute across the global organization to always maintain our nimble, startup culture.

At Alloy, we have an ethos of "Mentorship-By-Apprenticeship" in all of our positions. We strive to have workers in the office when needed to interact organically and face-to-face. Of course, as a lab-based operation, our cells and animals grow 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

We respect and value our colleagues for their hard work that requires them to be in the lab every day. We ask our people who have more flexible accommodations to appreciate their colleagues who have less flexibility. We are all one team!

About the Role

In 2020, Alloy launched its venture studio 82VS, which works with talented academics, entrepreneurs, biotech companies, and venture capitalists to build and support early stage, asset focused startups leveraging the tools and capabilities of the Alloy ecosystem. To date 82VS has founded or supported 20 asset-focused companies developing new medicines across the areas of oncology, immunology, ophthalmology, neurology, nephrology, and rare diseases. These companies are advancing antibody, multispecific, oligonucleotide, and TCR mimic based therapeutics, with an expanding focus on developing multimodal platforms including delivery shuttles and antibody-oligo conjugate (AOCs).

As a Venture Partner at 82VS, you will be provided with agency to work and collaborate across scientific, operational, and business areas to build new biotech companies from idea to Series A and/or high-value M&A, whichever comes first. You will bring your “no task too small mentality” to all of your work and will manage everything from the smallest operational and scientific details to the largest strategic and business elements. You will work daily with Founders, drug discovery scientists, KOLs, VCs, and biopharma collaborators to build ideas into capital-efficient companies with investible asset-centric portfolios.

This role requires a philosophical belief that out collaborating is better than out competing in the development of medicine. This role will report to the President of 82VS with autonomy owning various stakeholders, projects, and initiatives in a dynamic start-up environment.

This Venture Partner role will focus on the development of next-generation antibody-oligo conjugate based companies leveraging Alloy’s expanding suite of ex-hepatic delivery shuttles and proprietary AntiClastic oligonucleotide platform. You will work across multiple NewCo builds in collaboration with external co-founders to translate therapeutic ideas into differentiated assets in neurology, rare disease, and other indications.

This is a 2 year role with the expectation that you will transition into a leadership role at one of the companies that you form during that time.

How You’ll Drive Impact

  • Establish: create the most capital-efficient biotech companies with strong investible scientific narratives in a venture studio model. The model provides support including access to Alloy drug discovery platforms and R&D experts, early validating experimentation, lead discovery, lead optimization, target prioritization, fundraising strategy and access to capital. This enables our entrepreneurs to achieve financial independence in 18-24 months. You will be the Co-Founder that contributes irreplaceable value by picking up all of the loose ends of a company and optimizing operations for success to allow management team members, and scientists to shine with their strengths and drive value for the company.
  • Operate: step into the CEO/COO seat for your new companies and be accountable for all aspects of the build including syndicating with other investors, incorporating new entities, developing and implementing strategic and operating plans including product roadmaps from concept to clinic, TCPs and TPPs, building budgets and forecasts, establishing strong KOL relationships and SAB, developing work plans with Alloy’s R&D teams and managing scientific operations.
  • Negotiate: broker with potential partners (e.g., VC and pharma) and service providers to ensure fair and equitable relationships with our partners; strong fences build strong neighbors, which start with term sheets and share the common goal of making medicine together.
  • Transact: lead portfolio companies to equity financing and high value transactions with pharmaceutical/biotech partners to accelerate the discovery and development of the programs and medicines that we build. Success for a Venture Partner is seeing each of their companies achieve a Series A financing led by a world-class venture capital firm or M&A by a leading biopharma company, in order to accelerate the development of medicines and their access to patients.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or Masters with 5+ years experience in the fields of biomedical research, drug discovery or similar.
  • Proven experience in venture creation or operational roles at early-stage venture backed start-ups. Prior experience in a Senior or C-suite role is highly desirable.
  • Technical expertise in antibody and/or oligonucleotide drug discovery and development. Prior experience with antibody-oligo conjugates or ex-hepatic delivery is highly desirable
  • Experience supporting the advancement of therapeutic assets through discovery, pre-clinical, and/or clinical development in a scientific or operational role
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills. Strong business acumen and ability to manage complex transactions is desirable.
  • Ability to work across various US and international time zones.
  • Accommodate occasional travel as needed (20%).
