DESCRIPTION: Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Software Test Engineer II and contribute to ensuring the quality and reliability of our advanced software solutions. You'll work on sophisticated applications that control our analytical instruments, including mass spectrometers, electron microscopes, and other advanced scientific equipment. As part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you'll work with developers, scientists, and stakeholders to validate software that enables groundbreaking research and innovation.

Your work will directly impact scientific discoveries in fields like cancer research, drug development, and semiconductor manufacturing. As a Software Developer, you will actively engage in comprehending software requirements thoroughly, ensuring end-to-end understanding, and delivering high quality code to fulfill these requirements. Your focus extends to optimizing system performance while prioritizing the long-term maintainability of the codebase.

What will you do? Perform scenario-based manual testing of software applications to identify defects and ensure adherence to quality standards. Analyze requirements and develop comprehensive test scenarios and test cases covering positive, negative, boundary, edge, exception, and end-to-end business scenarios.

Apply strong software testing techniques Decision Table Testing, State Transition Testing, Error Guessing, and Exploratory Testing. Develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on project requirements. Conduct verification and validation activities to confirm that software meets specified requirements and user expectations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements, identify requirement gaps, and validate software functionality. Perform functional, integration, regression, system, exploratory, and end-to-end testing. Analyze test results, identify issues, and report defects in a clear and timely manner.

Work closely with developers to troubleshoot issues, verify fixes, and ensure the integrity of the software. Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright with Python, where applicable, to improve regression coverage and testing efficiency. Execute and maintain automated test scripts as part of the overall testing process.

Perform mobile device testing across applicable devices, operating systems, screen sizes, and configurations, where required. Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings to provide input on testing activities and contribute to process improvement initiatives. Minimum Requirements or Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

3-5 years of experience in software testing, verification, and validation. Strong proficiency in scenario-based manual testing methodologies and techniques. Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in test design techniques such as Boundary Value Analysis, Equivalence Partitioning, Decision Table Testing, State Transition Testing, Error Guessing, and Exploratory Testing.

Strong ability to derive comprehensive test scenarios from requirements, business workflows, and user behavior, including positive, negative, boundary, edge, and exception scenarios. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail. Experience in functional, integration, regression, system, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.

Experience with Playwright automation using Python is an added advantage. Experience with Python and pytest is an added advantage. Experience in mobile device testing is an added advantage.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet project deadlines. Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), software testing lifecycle (STLC), and Agile methodologies.

Exposure to ISO 13485 and IEC 62304 standards for medical device development. ISTQB or similar certification is a plus.
