Position Summary

The Process Safety Management & Compliance Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining process safety programs to ensure the safe operation of manufacturing facilities handling hazardous materials. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards while minimizing risks to employees, the community, and the environment. The position partners with operations, maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to identify hazards, implement risk reduction measures, and continuously improve process safety performance.

The engineer serves as a technical resource for process safety, regulatory compliance, and operational risk management.

This position is Hybrid in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, but will have significant travel to our St. Louis, Minnesota, and Ohio plants. Travel during the build of the new facility will be close to 50% and will decrease as project progresses.

What You’ll do as a Senior Process Safety Management & Compliance Engineer

  • Lead and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), What-If analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Manage Management of Change (MOC) processes, ensuring technical reviews, risk assessments, and documentation are completed.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation related to process safety events.
  • Develop and deliver process safety and compliance training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance assessments and ensures timely closure of findings.
  • Review process design changes, capital projects, and equipment modifications for process safety impacts.
  • Track process safety metrics and prepare reports for management review and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of operational excellence and compliance objectives.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 more years of experience in Process Safety Management programs, risk assessment/HAZOP/PHA facilitation, regulatory compliance and audit support, incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Management of Change (MOC) Systems, working in Chemical processing operations/Process Manufacturing

Preferred

  • Experience working in a chemical processing operation and cGMP-regulated facilities
  • Experience with EPA Risk Management Program compliance
  • Safety leadership and training development and capital project support

Pay range for this opportunity is $92,650.00 - $119,900.00. [ACTION REQUIRED - REMOVE IF NOT APPLICABLE:] This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
