Job Description Engineering Facilities Intern: Job Purpose Join our dynamic Engineering Facilities team and gain hands-on experience supporting Hard and Soft Services in a fast-paced biotech environment. This internship provides practical exposure to facilities operations, engineering systems, compliance, safety, data analysis and continuous improvement. It is suited to students pursuing Engineering, Building Services, Energy Engineering, Architecture, Building Surveying or a related discipline.

The intern will work with the Engineering Facilities team and outsourced Integrated Facilities Management partners to support safe, compliant and reliable site operations. So, what will you be responsible for? Preparation, analysis and presentation of Engineering Facilities metrics.

Technical input into deviations and support for the quality notification process, under appropriate supervision. Conducting facility inspection walks and tracking observations to closure. Planning and executing assigned Engineering Facilities activities.

Supporting root cause analysis of system failures or substandard performance using standard tools and methods. Supporting continuous improvement through Lean Six Sigma methodologies. Serving as an Engineering Facilities representative on assigned cross-functional projects.

Complying with Global Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, regulatory requirements and current Good Manufacturing Practices in all applicable activities. Completing documentation, supporting risk assessments, closing assigned corrective actions and participating in audits and inspections as required. Working collaboratively to support a safe, reliable and compliant culture at Carlow.

Performing other duties as assigned and appropriate to the internship. Qualification: Currently pursuing a qualification in Engineering or a closely related built-environment discipline. Relevant fields include Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Energy, Process/Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management or Building Surveying.

General Competencies Genuine interest in Engineering Facilities, building services, asset management and the operation of a regulated manufacturing site. Safety-first mindset with attention to compliance, quality and accurate documentation. Structured problem-solving ability and confidence working with technical information and data.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain observations clearly and escalate concerns appropriately. Organised and dependable, with the ability to prioritise tasks, follow through on actions and meet agreed deadlines. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Engineering, EHS, Quality, Operations and external service partners.

Curiosity, initiative and openness to feedback, with a focus on continuous improvement. Professional judgement, integrity and respect for confidential information. Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI is advantageous.

Ability to read or develop basic engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, schematics or layouts; familiarity with CAD, BIM or Digital Twin tools is advantageous. Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, building services, controls, utilities, maintenance or energy systems appropriate to the student’s discipline. Familiarity with cGMP and Good Documentation Practices is advantageous but not essential, as role-specific induction will be provided.

Comfort using digital systems to manage data, actions, records and reports. This internship will be completed fully on site.
