Position Summary
The Materials Manager, is responsible for leading inventory management, inventory control, stockroom operations, and material execution activities supporting the STERIS Instrument Management Services (IMS) repair business. This role ensures accurate storage, control, replenishment, and availability of repair parts, consumables, and indirect materials required to support repair operations and customer service commitments.
Based in Chesterfield, Missouri, the Materials Manager provides direct leadership for local stockroom operations and inventory management functions while maintaining responsibility for inventory governance and stockroom performance across additional IMS locations in Keller, Texas; Lenexa, Kansas; and Stow, Ohio.
The position directly manages Stockroom Supervisors and Inventory Control personnel and partners closely with Planning, Purchasing, Operations, Logistics, Quality, Finance, and Engineering teams to ensure material availability and inventory accuracy throughout the network. The Manager, Materials serves as the business owner for inventory control, material replenishment execution, cycle counting, physical inventories, inventory optimization, material master governance, and Oracle inventory management processes.
What You'll Do as a Materials Manager
Inventory Management & Control
- ✓Develop and maintain inventory management strategies that ensure repair parts and consumable materials are available to support customer demand and operational requirements.
- ✓Oversee inventory control activities including inventory transactions, stock accuracy, material storage, reconciliation activities, cycle counting, and physical inventory execution.
- ✓Ensure inventory accuracy through disciplined inventory management processes, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- ✓Lead inventory optimization initiatives to balance customer service requirements, inventory investment, and operational efficiency.
- ✓Establish inventory performance metrics, monitor trends, and develop action plans to improve inventory health and working capital performance.
Stockroom Operations Leadership
- ✓Establish standardized stockroom processes, inventory control procedures, visual management systems, and operational performance metrics across all IMS locations.
- ✓Conduct routine operational reviews to ensure consistency, compliance, and operational excellence throughout the network.
- ✓Partner with Operations leadership to ensure materials are available to support repair schedules and customer commitments.
- ✓Drive stockroom organization, space utilization improvements, material presentation standards, and workplace efficiency initiatives.

- ✓Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and employee development.
- ✓Establish goals and performance standards aligned with business and functional objectives.
- ✓Support talent development and organizational capability growth across the Materials organization.
Continuous Improvement
- ✓Partner with Information Technology and Supply Chain teams to develop and implement inventory management system enhancements.
- ✓Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory accuracy, productivity, stockroom efficiency, material availability, and working capital reduction.
- ✓Develop inventory dashboards and performance reporting tools supporting operational and leadership decision-making.
- ✓Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for stockroom operations, inventory control, and material handling activities.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required
- ✓Bachelor’s degree
- ✓Minimum seven (7) years related experience purchasing and materials management or related field
- ✓Five (5) years supervisory experience
- ✓Five (5) years budgeting and forecasting experience
- ✓Computer Skills- Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications
- ✓Ability to travel up to 25% annually
Preferred
- ✓APICS CPIM or CSCP certification.
- ✓Lean Six Sigma certification.
- ✓Experience working with Oracle or other MRP systems

Pay range for this opportunity is $81,750 - $109,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
