At AstraZeneca, we are seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance function within a cell therapy manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and reliable performance of manufacturing, laboratory, utility and facility assets that support highly regulated and time-sensitive operations. A key focus of this position is to develop and mature the site’s maintenance planning, scheduling, MRO storeroom management and maintenance metrics framework, improving the overall Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) methodology .
You will play a central role in reducing reactive work, strengthening asset-care strategies, improving spare-parts readiness and building a data-driven maintenance organization that supports uninterrupted manufacturing operations. Working closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Validation, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Automation and EHS, you will drive continuous improvement and help ensure maintenance practices meet business, compliance and patient-supply needs. What you’ll do Lead the site maintenance function supporting cell therapy manufacturing, laboratories, critical utilities and facility systems.
Develop and implement a structured maintenance planning and scheduling process, including work identification, prioritization, backlog management, weekly scheduling and schedule-compliance review. Establish and sustain effective CMMS-based work-management processes for preventive, predictive, corrective and emergency maintenance. Improve RAM performance by analyzing equipment history, downtime trends, failure modes and maintenance effectiveness, then translating findings into practical reliability improvements.
Optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve uptime, reduce recurring failures and increase planned-work execution. Lead MRO storeroom improvements, including spare-parts governance, critical-spares identification, inventory accuracy, min/max optimization and service-level improvement. Define and track maintenance KPIs, including PM completion, schedule compliance, planned versus unplanned work, backlog age, MTBF, MTTR, equipment uptime and storeroom performance.
Partner with cross-functional teams to investigate equipment issues, support root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions. Ensure compliance with GMP/ GxP requirements, site procedures, documentation standards, change control, deviation management and audit-readiness expectations. Manage internal team members, contractors and service providers to deliver safe and efficient maintenance execution.
Support shutdown and maintenance-window planning to maximize work quality and minimize operational disruption. Manage budgets and costs associated with maintenance labor, contractors and spare-parts inventory while maintaining compliance and reliability standards. Coach and develop the maintenance team through clear expectations, training, performance management and standard work practices.
Essential for the role Bachelor’s degree in Engineering , Maintenance Management, Industrial Technology or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. 7+ years of experience in maintenance, reliability, facilities or engineering within a regulated manufacturing environment. 3+ years of leadership experience managing maintenance teams, planners, supervisors or technical support personnel.
Experience in biopharmaceutical, medical device, cell therapy, gene therapy, aseptic manufacturing or another highly regulated industry. Demonstrated experience developing or improving maintenance planning and scheduling processes. Demonstrated experience managing or optimizing an MRO storeroom and spare-parts strategy.
Experience using CMMS/EAM systems such as SAP PM, Maximo or similar platforms. Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability metrics, including MTBF, MTTR, backlog management and planned versus unplanned work. Working knowledge of GMP/ GxP , change control, deviations, CAPA and maintenance documentation practices.

Physical and working conditions Ability to reach, stoop, crouch and kneel, including physically entering, standing or crouching inside a robotic cluster for maintenance, cleaning or intervention. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including equipment, replacement parts and tools, and lift up to 10 pounds overhead. Ability to climb ladders, work in mechanical spaces and at heights, and respond to after- hours calls.
Manual dexterity for using hand tools, cabling and making mechanical adjustments. Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing area adjacent to a laboratory setting and requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including applicable biosafety requirements and situational awareness. Potential exposure to hazardous materials, including biological agents and cryogenic materials, while servicing equipment that handles these substances.
Required use of personal protective equipment, including lab coats, safety glasses and gloves, for extended periods during bio experiments. The role follows a standard schedule but may require occasional evening or weekend work, or on-call availability, to respond to critical cluster issues or complete time-sensitive maintenance.
