Description

Who We Are

BioMarin is a leading rare disease biotechnology company focused on genetically defined conditions.

Guided by our purpose to develop medicines that make a profound impact on people’s lives, our global teams have delivered a portfolio of therapies since our founding in 1997. Our revolutionary treatments for conditions like achondroplasia (the most common form of dwarfism), PKU (phenylketonuria), CLN2, a form of Batten disease, and a number of forms of MPS (mucopolysaccharidosis) offer new possibilities for patients and families who previously had few, if any, available options. More recently, with the close of the Amicus acquisition, our portfolio has expanded to include therapies for Fabry disease and Pompe disease, expanding our ability to reach more people living with rare genetic conditions.

Our success comes from our unwavering commitment to excellence, our deep understanding of patient needs, our scientific expertise, and our world-class manufacturing capabilities. At the heart of BioMarin is a dedicated team of the brightest minds in the industry working together to deliver innovative therapies to patients and families around the world.

This role combines hands-on accounting ownership with frequent partnership across project teams, budget owners, FP&A, audit, and other business functions. It is well suited for someone who can translate accounting requirements into clear, practical guidance and build productive working relationships across departments.

Collaboration is central to this role. You will proactively communicate status, explain accounting conclusions in business-friendly language, ask effective follow-up questions, and keep stakeholders aligned on deadlines, open items, and decisions.

What you will own

  • Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis.
  • Review asset classifications for consistency with US GAAP and company policy.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit requests related to fixed assets.
  • Partner with project managers to monitor capital project spend and assess capitalization versus expense treatment.
  • Monitor Asset Under Construction balances and drive timely project closures and asset placements in service.
  • Assist with depreciation and CAPEX impact forecasting for FP&A and business partners.
  • Apply capitalization policies consistently and help improve related processes.
  • Perform monthly OPEX purchase order reviews for commitments, coding, and alignment with budget expectations.
  • Prepare and analyze OPEX accruals to support complete and accurate period-end expense recognition.
  • Work with budget owners to investigate variances and communicate clear insights into key drivers and trends.
  • Monitor open POs and goods or services receipts to assess expense timing and identify cleanup or closure needs.
  • Support monthly OPEX reporting, including variance commentary for FP&A and business partners.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over fixed asset and CAPEX processes.
  • Support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation activities.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen reporting, and improve data integrity.
  • Contribute to system enhancements or ERP projects affecting fixed asset accounting.

How you will work across the business

  • Build trusted relationships with project managers, budget owners, FP&A, audit, and accounting partners.
  • Communicate accounting requirements and conclusions clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Proactively surface risks, missing information, and timeline concerns before they affect the close or project milestones.
  • Lead follow-ups with clear ownership and next steps, while maintaining a responsive and service-oriented approach.
  • Balance technical accuracy with practical execution in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

What success looks like

  • Accurate, timely fixed asset, CAPEX, and OPEX accounting with well-supported reconciliations and analyses.
  • Stakeholders understand what is needed, why it matters, who owns the next step, and when it is due.
  • Capital projects and AUC balances are actively monitored, with issues escalated early and closures progressed timely.
  • Audit requests and control activities are organized, responsive, and supported by clear documentation.
  • Processes become more transparent, efficient, and reliable through practical continuous improvement.

What you bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including 3+ years focused on fixed assets and/or CAPEX.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, including capitalization rules and depreciation methodologies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
  • Experience with a major ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or a similar platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across departments, and drive follow-through on open items.

Preferred

  • CPA or CPA-eligible.
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or another capital-intensive industry.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls and audit processes.
  • Experience with project accounting modules or fixed asset subledger systems.

Capabilities that will help you thrive

  • Clear, concise, and audience-aware communication.
  • Strong analytical thinking and practical problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail without losing sight of deadlines and business priorities.
