About this role

About the Role: As the SHE Manager for our Suzhou site, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, health, environmental protection, and biosafety of our employees and operations. You will support the SS&E China Lead and Suzhou Plant Lead in overseeing SHE operations at the site. Acting as the primary liaison between the Suzhou site and BioNTech's China SHE team, you will be responsible for implementing global standards and guidelines while working closely with local business teams.

Additionally, you will serve as the key contact with local government authorities, submitting routine reports and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive a proactive SHE culture and contribute to operational excellence in a dynamic environment. Your Contribution: Provide guidance to ensure effective implementation, integration, and continuous improvement of BioNTech’s global SHE standards at the Suzhou site under the direction of China leadership Localize China SHE policies/procedures for implementation in Suzhou; establish an operational dashboard to track and update SHE performance for both China and global reporting Assist department leaders in setting annual SHE performance goals for Suzhou based on global and China targets; monitor progress across all locations within the site Oversee third-party SHE service providers: manage their governance and performance to ensure alignment with BioNTech’s standards, contractual requirements, and long-term needs in Suzhou Evaluate risks, implement mitigation measures, monitor developments, and lead incident response and investigation efforts Design and manage comprehensive SHE concepts, technologies, and preparedness measures to ensure robust protection mechanisms are in place Act as a local SHE advisor: provide strategic recommendations to leadership and business teams while ensuring that key business priorities align with SHE considerations during planning and decision-making processes Foster a proactive SHE culture: integrate risk-based decision-making into daily operations while promoting awareness of safety, confidentiality, and compliance among employees at all levels A Good Match: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering, or Engineering Management Proficiency in written and spoken English to support communication across global teams At least 12 years of experience in SHE management and compliance within regulated industries In-depth knowledge of key regulatory bodies governing pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or therapeutic products (e.g., National Medical Products Administration) Strong ability to evaluate risks systematically while designing scalable solutions that align with organizational goals Proven experience working with local authorities on regulatory compliance matters; familiarity with submitting reports to government agencies is highly desirable Excellent interpersonal skills: adept at providing strategic guidance to leadership while fostering collaboration across diverse teams Willingness to travel domestically or internationally as required Join us at BioNTech as we build a safer workplace environment while advancing groundbreaking therapies that transform lives!
