About this role

Overview Help shape the organization behind the science Scientific progress depends on exceptional people, strong leadership and an organization capable of turning ambition into action. As Director, Human Resources Business Partner, R&D, you will work at the heart of our Research & Development organization, partnering with senior leaders as they build capabilities, evolve their teams and navigate the complexity of a fast-moving biopharmaceutical environment. You will bring a clear people perspective to critical business decisions—anticipating future talent needs, challenging organizational thinking and helping leaders create the conditions for people and science to thrive.

This is a highly visible role for an accomplished HR leader who combines strategic perspective with sound judgment and a genuine willingness to engage in the realities of the business. The opportunity You will serve as a trusted advisor to R&D leaders, translating scientific, clinical and operational priorities into focused people and organizational strategies. Your impact will include: Shaping workforce and capability plans around evolving portfolio and organizational priorities.

Leading organization design initiatives that strengthen accountability, collaboration and decision-making. Identifying critical talent, succession and retention risks—and turning insights into practical action. Advising and coaching leaders through growth, transformation, ambiguity and complex people decisions.

Strengthening leadership teams, ways of working and organizational effectiveness across R&D. Guiding talent reviews, succession planning, performance management and leadership development. Supporting new operating models, restructurings and business transitions with thoughtful change leadership.

Using workforce data and employee insights to surface emerging needs and influence decisions. Partnering with Talent Acquisition on critical appointments, success profiles and the candidate and hiring-manager experience. Working closely with HR Centers of Excellence, HR Operations, Compensation, Benefits, Employee Relations and Legal to deliver integrated solutions.

Managing sensitive employee matters with fairness, discretion and appropriate risk awareness. Improving clarity, ownership and execution across the HR operating model. What you will bring You are a credible and thoughtful HR leader who understands how to operate alongside senior stakeholders in a complex, highly skilled environment.

You can move comfortably from long-term organizational questions to immediate people challenges while maintaining clarity, pragmatism and momentum. You will bring: Significant progressive HR experience, including substantial experience as an HR Business Partner to senior leaders. A strong track record in organization design, workforce planning, talent management, succession, performance and change.

Experience supporting R&D, scientific, clinical, regulatory, technical or similarly complex professional populations. The business curiosity to understand development priorities, organizational dependencies and the capabilities required to advance innovation. Strong executive presence and the confidence to challenge constructively when the organization needs a different perspective.

The ability to interpret data, recognize patterns and translate insight into clear recommendations. Experience operating across functions and geographies within a matrixed, regulated environment. Sound judgment when navigating sensitive employee, compliance and organizational matters.

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Psychology or a related discipline. An advanced degree or relevant HR qualification would be valued. Experience within biopharmaceuticals or life sciences would be particularly relevant.

How you will lead You build trust through substance, consistency and judgment. You listen carefully, ask the questions that move thinking forward and remain close enough to the organization to understand what is really happening. You are equally comfortable influencing an executive discussion, facilitating a talent review, supporting a leader through change or working across HR to turn a decision into meaningful action.

What success will look like Your partnership will help R&D leaders make stronger organizational and talent decisions. Future capability needs will become clearer, succession and retention risks will be addressed earlier, and teams will operate with greater alignment and accountability. Most importantly, you will help create an environment where talented people can do their best work—and where the organization is equipped to advance science with purpose, pace and impact.
