Summary

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a creative, self-motivated scientist with strong problem-solving skills to join our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group as a Senior Scientist in Biotransformation at our Princeton, NJ site. The role is within the Pharmaceutical Candidate Optimization (PCO) group, a multidisciplinary organization that provides DMPK, toxicology, pharmaceutics and bioanalytical expertise to advance discovery programs. In this role, the successful candidate will primarily support biotransformation experiments in the discovery stage, providing subject matter expertise in metabolite identification.

Responsibilities

  • ✓Provide scientific and technical expertise in small-molecule biotransformation and metabolite identification; design, conduct, interpret and report high-quality mechanistic in vitro and in vivo metabolism studies to characterize metabolic pathways, evaluate metabolic kinetics and address discovery program questions.
  • ✓Use experimental data, scientific literature and mechanistic reasoning to define next steps, troubleshoot studies and resolve complex or ambiguous metabolism questions.
  • ✓Operate and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms, and contribute to the development and implementation of new assays, technologies and data-analysis approaches.
  • ✓Contribute to program science and strategy, lead scientific discussions and present clear recommendations in multidisciplinary meetings; collaborate across DMPK, partner functions and BMS sites, and provide technical guidance or mentoring to junior scientists as appropriate.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • ✓Bachelor’s degree in chemical biology, biochemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, cell biology or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant academic and/or industry experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • ✓Hands-on experience in small-molecule biotransformation, drug-metabolizing enzymes, metabolite identification or related ADME sciences, including operating and troubleshooting LC-MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • ✓Ability to independently design experiments, interpret and summarize data, and communicate conclusions and recommendations clearly; excellent oral and written communication skills and a track record of working collaboratively across disciplines.
  • ✓Working knowledge of organic or medicinal chemistry relevant to metabolite identification and structural interpretation.
  • ✓Experience applying computational tools for metabolite prediction (MassMetasite/ONIRO, StarDrop) and data-analysis/summary tools such as Excel, PowerPoint and GraphPad Prism, with interest in expanding AI-enabled approaches to data interpretation and hypothesis generation.
  • ✓A track record of scientific achievement demonstrated via publication record.
