Position Summary
This is a key role requiring extensive technical and organisational skills. The Facilities Technician is required to execute day-to-day facilities activities and achieve departmental goals for Safety, Quality, and Operational Effectiveness. The technican is primarily responsible for the maintenance & calibration of plant utilities, process equipment, generation of associated documentation (paper or electronic), providing electrical, automation, facilities and maintenance support to ensure plant, equipment and building services operate safely and reliably.
Diagnoses and resolves breakdowns while supporting planned maintenance, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement activities.

Duties
- ✓Carry out electrical fault-finding, repair and maintenance on, but not limited to, production equipment, facility systems, offices/buildings.
- ✓Respond promptly to breakdowns and restore equipment safely and efficiently.
- ✓Perform planned preventive and predictive maintenance in line with maintenance schedules.
- ✓Support electrical installations, machine modifications, commissioning and equipment upgrades.
- ✓Diagnose faults involving motors, drives, sensors, contactors, relays, control panels and instrumentation.
- ✓Troubleshoot automated equipment, PLC-controlled systems, HMIs and SCADA applications.
- ✓Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to reliability, safety and maintainability.
- ✓Support facilities systems such as lighting, power distribution, HVAC controls, utilities, pumps and building services.
- ✓Assist with calibration, testing and replacement of electrical and control components.
- ✓Liaise with equipment manufacturers, service providers and specialist contractors.
- ✓Participate in continuous improvement, root-cause analysis and downtime-reduction initiatives.
- ✓Maintain good housekeeping and ensure tools, workshops and electrical panels are kept in a safe condition.

Cost
- ✓Ensure all plant downtime is reviewed and monitored with suggestions for improvements highlighted.
- ✓Purchase responsible for managing the STERIS spare part inventory process, to ensure availability of key parts for planned and unplanned maintenance activities. Work closely with the Facilities Supervisor/Manager to ensure cost effective purchasing is delivered.
- ✓Ensure spare part stock levels are accurately maintained on Emaint. and coordinate with Facilities Supervisor/Manager to ensure Purchase Orders (PO’s) are raised in a timely manner
- ✓Generating and processing purchase orders as requested by Facilities Manager or desiginate.
Delivery
- ✓Ensures that all external calibration equipment is scheduled and completed in a timely manner
- ✓Generate work orders, enter comprehensive job details on a regular basis
- ✓Troubleshooting equipment and work with control system and PLC’s
- ✓Support the development of an annual Facilities budget
- ✓Communicate to a Facilities supervisor/Manager all issues that affect the plant.
- ✓Oversee equipment upgrades and refurbishment projects, effectively coordinating with vendor support in line with change control policies
- ✓Schedule and ensure critical third-party activities are executed and are completed as per site procedures
- ✓Monitor, log and review all call outs and schedule call out rota in line with production demands
- ✓Is regularly available on standby to respond to various call outs in relation to utility and process alarms and problems
- ✓Participate and Lead (if appropriate) improvement projects as deemed by Management
- ✓Responsible for ensuring the Computerized Maintenance Management system (Emaint) is managed as per STERIS global requirements and used effectively for management of all PM, Stock control calibration

- ✓Ensure that routine preventative maintenance programme is adequate and completed in full and in a timely manner as defined per local Standard Operating Procedures and/or Work Instructions.

- ✓Ensures that equipment is suitable and are maintained to a sufficient standard to permit continued processing to validated parameters; this includes actively and proactively participate to continuous improvement of the equipment and process

Continuous improvement / KPI’s
- ✓To oversee SQDC counter measures ensuring target dates are reported
- ✓Proactively identify countermeasures to continually improve our process relative to plan (KPI)
- ✓Develop continuous improvement initiatives/activities within the department including supporting KAIZEN events
- ✓Develop & drive 5S program in the Facilities department
- ✓Participate in site process mapping, gemba walks and problem solving exercises in conjunction with other departments
Education Degree
Vocational/Technical in Electrical Engineering or Other
Required Experience
- ✓Recognised electrical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent technical certification.
- ✓Practical experience in an industrial, manufacturing, facilities or maintenance environment.
- ✓Strong electrical fault-finding skills and the ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals.
- ✓Automation or control-systems experience is preferred.
- ✓Experience with PLC inputs and outputs, sensors, actuators, variable-speed drives, motor controls and industrial communications is advantageous.
- ✓Experience supporting facilities equipment and building services is desirable.
- ✓Familiarity with computerised systems integration.
- ✓Ability to make safe, practical decisions during equipment breakdowns.
- ✓Capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- ✓Comfortable learning both legacy and modern control platforms.
- ✓A structured, logical thinker with good analytical skills, and excellent spreadsheet and presentation skills, you will have the ability to handle complex problems and deliver clear, concise solutions in a rapidly changing environment.
- ✓Project management experience is an advantage
- ✓Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills with energy and charisma.
- ✓Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity
- ✓Proficient with MS Office suite.
