The Senior Industrial Designer is responsible for leading design projects and works within the design team and across all disciplines to deliver powerful, compelling solutions. Design Strategy and Vision : Define and communicate design vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with company goals and market trends.

User-Centered Design : Conduct user research, gather insights, and apply design principles to create ergonomic, functional, and desirable products. Prototyping and Testing : Oversee the development of prototypes and mockups that support usability testing, and iterate designs based on feedback to refine product functionality and experience. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with human factors, engineering, product management, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to ensure innovative and successful product launches.

Technical Documentation : Prepare detailed design specifications, CAD files, renderings, presentations, and documentation necessary for design communication and engineering transfer. Mentorship and Leadership : Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on design best practices, tools, and processes to build a strong design team. Materials and Manufacturing Expertise : Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, balancing cost, durability, sustainability, and aesthetics.

Project Management : Establish and manage design timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time, meet user needs, business needs and quality standards. Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial design Professional Work Experience: 6-8+ years of industrial design experience, with a track record of leading design projects and delivering successful products. Portfolio of Completed Projects: A robust portfolio showcasing a range of product designs from concept through to production.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven experience working effectively with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and other stakeholders in a product development environment. Project Leadership: Experience managing or leading design projects, mentoring junior designers, and driving the design process from start to finish. Problem-Solving and Innovation: Demonstrated ability to creatively solve complex design challenges and innovate within constraints such as budget, materials, and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Interaction: Experience presenting designs and concepts to stakeholders, or management and incorporating feedback professionally. Design Principles and Methodologies: Deep understanding of industrial design fundamentals, including form, function, usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics. Materials and Manufacturing Processes: Extensive knowledge of materials (plastics, metals, composites, etc.) and manufacturing techniques (injection molding, CNC machining, 3D printing, etc.) to design for producibility and cost-effectiveness.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tools: Proficiency with 3D modeling and drafting software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Autodesk Alias, CATIA, or similar. Prototyping Techniques: Familiarity with rapid prototyping, model making, and various physical and digital prototyping methods. Product Development Lifecycle: Understanding of the full product development process from ideation to production, including collaboration with engineering, marketing, and manufacturing teams.

Visual Communication: Strong skills in sketching, rendering, and creating visual presentations to communicate design concepts effectively. Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of the Design Thinking process. Experience designing solutions in the medical device field.

Salary and Benefits: $120,000/yr. - $145,000/yr. depending on experience + variable target bonus (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
