Position Summary

The Associate Director, Commercial Effectiveness leads the integrated capabilities that convert commercial strategy, market intelligence, and data into measurable business performance for Genmab KK (Japan). Reporting to the Head of Commercial Excellence, the role provides strategic and operational leadership across Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE), Business Intelligence (BI), Competitive Intelligence (CI), and Data Analytics.

The position ensures that these four capabilities operate as one connected decision-support and execution engine. It partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Medical, Finance, Market Access, Human Resources, DDAI/IT, global functions, and external partners to strengthen launch readiness, brand execution, customer engagement, field performance, and long-term commercial growth.

Functional Scope

  • SFE: field-force design and deployment, segmentation and targeting, territory and call planning, CRM enablement, KPIs, incentives, performance management, and operating standards.
  • BAI: market, customer, brand, and business intelligence, including market research, performance reporting, forecasting, and decision support. Structured monitoring and interpretation of competitor activity, treatment landscapes, congress developments, and emerging threats or opportunities.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

Commercial Effectiveness Strategy and Leadership

  • Translate company, portfolio, brand, and launch strategies into an integrated commercial effectiveness agenda with clear priorities, governance, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
  • Advise the Head of Commercial Excellence and commercial leadership on performance opportunities, risks, resource choices, and corrective actions using market evidence, customer insight, field execution, and financial impact.
  • Align SFE, BAI around common definitions, assumptions, KPIs, and decision processes across brands and functions.
  • Lead strategic initiatives that strengthen Japan's commercial model, including launch excellence, CRM evolution, advanced analytics, automation, and AI-supported decision-making.

Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE)

  • Lead field-force effectiveness strategy, including segmentation, targeting, territory design and alignment, account and call planning, target allocation, and field execution standards.
  • Establish sales, brand, activity, and customer-engagement KPIs; monitor performance and recommend timely actions to Sales and Marketing leadership.
  • Oversee the design, governance, calculation, communication, and evaluation of sales incentive and recognition programs in partnership with Sales, HR, Finance, and relevant governance bodies.
  • Own the business direction for field CRM and SFE tools, including Veeva-related capabilities, reporting requirements, adoption, training, operational controls, and continuous improvement.
  • Standardize and document critical SFE processes to improve quality, continuity, scalability, audit readiness, and automation or outsourcing opportunities.

Business Analytics and Intelligence (BAI)

  • Set the BI agenda for Japan and ensure timely, accurate, and decision-relevant reporting on sales, market share, customer engagement, field activity, launch progress, and brand performance.
  • Lead management dashboards and recurring performance reviews, clearly interpreting performance drivers, implications, and recommended actions.
  • Partner with Marketing, Finance, Sales, Medical, and global teams to develop key assumptions, market assessments, scenarios, forecasts, and business cases.
  • Sponsor primary and secondary research addressing critical business questions, including patient journey, treatment dynamics, demand, brand tracking, launch baselines, and customer needs.
  • Establish a systematic CI capability covering competitor strategies, clinical and regulatory developments, treatment landscapes, congress activity, market access dynamics, and emerging disruptions.
  • Validate, synthesize, and translate intelligence into implications for Genmab's portfolio, launch plans, brand strategy, forecasts, and field execution.
  • Partner with global BI/CI counterparts so Japan-specific insights are incorporated into regional and global perspectives and relevant global learning is applied locally.
  • Maintain compliant processes for collecting, sharing, escalating, and retaining competitive intelligence, including appropriate vendor governance.

Cross-Functional Partnership, People, and Governance

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to Sales, Marketing, Medical, Finance, Market Access, DDAI/IT, HR, and global functions, constructively challenging assumptions and aligning stakeholders around evidence-based choices.
  • Support launch readiness and post-launch optimization by establishing market baselines, performance measures, customer and competitor insight, field-force readiness, and rapid feedback loops.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team across SFE, BI, CI, and Data Analytics; clarify accountabilities and build succession and capability plans.
  • Prioritize demand, allocate internal and external resources, manage budgets and vendors, and maintain transparent delivery commitments.
  • Ensure activities comply with applicable laws, industry codes, company policies, privacy and security requirements, promotional standards, and audit expectations.

Leadership Competencies

  • Strategic orientation — connects portfolio and brand priorities to practical capability and execution choices.
  • Commercial and analytical judgment — balances evidence, business context, risk, and speed to make sound recommendations.
  • Enterprise collaboration — creates alignment across functions and levels without relying solely on formal authority.

  • People leadership — sets clear expectations, develops diverse talent, and creates a high-accountability, learning-oriented culture.
  • Operational excellence — builds simple, reliable, documented, and scalable processes while maintaining strong controls.
